Ter Implantation

TER implantation, commonly referring to transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, is a minimally invasive procedure that treats certain heart-valve disorders by reducing abnormal blood leakage. Guided by cardiac imaging, a catheter delivers a clip to the affected valve, where the device grasps and approximates the leaflets, creating two smaller openings and limiting regurgitant flow. The technique is used primarily for selected patients with mitral or tricuspid regurgitation, particularly when conventional surgery presents substantial risk. By improving valve coaptation and cardiac function, TER implantation can relieve symptoms, support recovery, and expand treatment options for patients who may not be suitable for open surgery.

Dual-chamber implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) may improve detection of atrial fibrillation as well as differentiation of tachycardias. However, this advantage is undermined by complications associated with the second electrode, which is required in conventional dual chamber devices. Therefore, BIOTRONIK has developed a new electrode called the LinoxSMART S DX that, when used in conjunction with the Lumax DX ICD, offers dual-chamber detection without the risks associated with the...
