High Pressure Impact

High pressure impact refers to the effects of sudden, intense pressure or force on biological materials, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. In neuroscience, these events can rapidly deform neural tissue, disturb cellular membranes and blood flow, and disrupt electrical signaling, initiating mechanical and biochemical responses that may evolve into inflammation or cell damage. Studying high pressure impact helps researchers characterize traumatic brain and nervous-system injury, connect physical forces with neurological symptoms, and evaluate protective strategies and experimental treatments. This work also supports safer designs for environments and activities that expose people to rapid pressure changes.

The laser heated diamond anvil cell combined with synchrotron micro-diffraction techniques allows researchers to explore the nature and properties of new phases of matter at extreme pressure and temperature (PT) conditions. Heterogeneous samples can be characterized in situ under high pressure by 2D mapping and combined powder, single-crystal and multigrain diffraction approaches.

Impact of Groups on Groups

2025

Social psychologists analyze how groups influence one another, shaping social structures and interactions through both cooperation and competition. These dynamics manifest in various ways, ranging from economic partnerships to intergroup conflicts that shape societal structures and perceptions.Cooperation and Competition in Intergroup RelationsIntergroup relationships vary across contexts, sometimes fostering cooperation and mutual benefit while at other times leading to conflict and...

Visualization of High Speed Liquid Jet Impaction on a Moving Surface

2015

Two experimental devices for examining liquid jet impingement on a high-speed moving surface are described: an air cannon device and a spinning disk device. The apparatuses are used to determine optimal approaches to the application of liquid friction modifier (LFM) onto rail tracks for top-of-rail friction control.

Measurement of Pulmonary Artery Pressure in Rats Using Right Heart Catheterization

The protocol provides a detailed introduction to the experience of using the right heart catheterization method to detect pulmonary artery pressure in rats, which will help to obtain accurate data more efficiently and improve the success rate of the experiment. This method also improves the reproducibility of experiments across different laboratories.

Vapor Pressure

When a liquid vaporizes in a closed container, gas molecules cannot escape. As these gas phase molecules move randomly about, they will occasionally collide with the surface of the condensed phase, and in some cases, these collisions will result in the molecules re-entering the condensed phase. The change from the gas phase to the liquid is called condensation. When the rate of condensation becomes equal to the rate of vaporization, neither the amount of the liquid nor the amount of the vapor...
