Temperature-controlled Head Stage

A temperature-controlled head stage is a laboratory device that stabilizes the temperature of a biological sample or recording environment during experiments, an important function because neuronal activity and cellular physiology are temperature-sensitive. It uses a temperature sensor and feedback-controlled heating or cooling to maintain a selected set point, helping reduce thermal fluctuations during electrophysiological recordings. In neuroscience, this system supports patch-clamp experiments and other measurements of neuronal function by improving experimental consistency and preserving physiologically relevant conditions. Reliable temperature control strengthens comparisons across recordings and helps researchers interpret how temperature influences membrane properties, synaptic transmission, neural circuits, and disease-related changes.

Development of Head Control During Infancy

2026

The control of head posture and movement is an important early milestone in motor development. During the first four months of life, infants gradually learn to stabilize and move their heads against gravity. Head control depends on the gradual strengthening and coordination of the neck, shoulder, and upper trunk muscles.Early Head MovementsAt birth, infants have limited control over their heads because their neck muscles are still weak. While lying on their backs, newborns can usually turn...

2016

The social amoebae Dictyostelium discoideum has recently been established as a system to study protein misfolding and proteostasis. Here, we describe a new imaging-based methodology to study temperature-induced protein aggregation and the cellular stress response in D. discoideum.

Physical Methods for Controlling Microbial Growth: Temperature

2025

Heat is a widely used method to control microbial growth by targeting and denaturing cellular proteins, thereby killing or inactivating microbes. This method's effectiveness is quantified using parameters such as the thermal death point (TDP), thermal death time (TDT), and decimal reduction time (D value). TDP represents the lowest temperature at which all microorganisms in a liquid suspension are eliminated within 10 minutes, whereas TDT is the time necessary to achieve sterilization at a...
