Tms Artifact Template

A TMS artifact template is a reference model used to identify and reduce stimulation-related artifacts in neurophysiological recordings collected during transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Because the TMS pulse produces a large, brief electrical and electromagnetic signal that can obscure underlying EEG or other neural responses, the template is aligned to the pulse onset and compared with the recorded waveform for artifact detection and removal. This approach helps preserve time-locked brain activity while minimizing contamination from the stimulation device. Reliable artifact correction supports studies of cortical excitability, connectivity, and evoked responses, improving the interpretation and reproducibility of TMS neuroscience experiments.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves passing current through an insulated coil placed against the scalp. A brief magnetic field is created by current in the coil, and because of the physical process of induction, this leads to a current in the nearby neural tissue. Depending on the duration, frequency, and magnitude of these magnetic...

DNA as a Genetic Template

Two structural features of the DNA molecule provide a basis for the mechanisms of heredity: the four nucleotide bases and its double-stranded nature. The Watson-Crick model of double-helical DNA structure, proposed in 1952, drew heavily upon the X-ray crystallography work of researchers Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins. Watson, Crick, and Wilkins jointly received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their work in 1962. Franklin was, controversially, excluded from the prize for...
