Delayed Effects

Delayed effects are pharmacological responses that appear after a time lag following drug exposure, making them important for interpreting treatment outcomes and adverse reactions. They can result from slow absorption or distribution, tissue accumulation, formation of active metabolites, prolonged receptor binding, or downstream cellular changes that continue after the initial drug signal. In pharmacology, recognizing these mechanisms helps distinguish immediate effects from delayed therapeutic benefits or toxicity and supports appropriate dose scheduling and patient monitoring. Studying delayed effects is especially relevant when evaluating long-acting medicines, cumulative exposure, treatment adherence, and responses that emerge only after repeated administration.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Human memory is limited. Throughout most of its history, experimental psychology has focused on investigating the discrete, quantitative limits of memory—how many individual pieces of information a person can remember. Recently, experimental psychologists have also become interested in more qualitative limits—how precisely is information stored? The concept of memory precision can be both intuitive and elusive at once. It is...

We present a protocol used to discover an interactive effect between sleep and cortisol on memory consolidation, particularly for negative arousing images. Specifically, the experimental design utilizes eye tracking, salivary cortisol analysis, and behavioral memory testing – methods that can be used with both healthy and clinical participants.

A Technique to Generate a Novel Delivery Platform for a Delayed Burst Release of Molecules
