Smart Tracking System

A smart tracking system is a technology-based platform that records, monitors, and analyzes the identity, location, or status of materials and activities in real time. In pharmacology, it can combine barcodes, RFID tags, sensors, and digital databases to link a drug or biological sample with its handling history, while time, temperature, and movement data support traceability. These systems help researchers and healthcare teams manage investigational medicines, monitor storage conditions, reduce labeling or dispensing errors, and document chain of custody during studies. By improving data integrity and operational visibility, smart tracking systems support safer drug development, more reliable pharmacological research, and efficient medication management.

Are You Smart or Hardworking? How Praise Influences Children's Motivation

Source: Laboratories of Judith Danovitch and Nicholaus Noles—University of Louisville Imagine teaching two children how to skate. It is a hard task for both of them, and they fall down frequently. After falling down for the first time, one child says that skating is too hard and wants to go home. The other child seems to enjoy the challenge and eagerly gets back up after falling down each time. Why do the children have such different attitudes about the same task? One reason may be that they...

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In a staggeringly complex and engaging world, it is crucial to selectively process some stimuli at the expense of others. Experimental psychologists call this ability attention. Specifically, visual attention refers to the ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Many paradigms used to study visual attention involve brief, punctuated, and repeated trials. However, everyday situations often place sustained demands...

The study of complex locomotor behavior in Drosophila melanogaster is dependent upon the ability to quantify changes in a given fly's movement. This article demonstrates how to do this using a high-resolution tracking system.

Eye Tracking in Cognitive Experiments

Eye tracking as the name suggests involves tracking of eye-movements. It is a non-invasive, sensitive tool that quantifies and measures eye-movements to describe an individuals' cognitive state. An eye-movement between two fixation points is called a saccade, which is one of the fastest motor movements in our body. By observing the profiles of these eye movements, scientists can better understand neural deficits in patients with cognitive impairments. In this video, we will first look at an...
