Belief Behavior Conflict

Belief Behavior Conflict is a psychological state in which a person’s actions or choices do not align with their beliefs, values, or stated attitudes. This mismatch can produce cognitive dissonance, an uncomfortable tension that people may reduce by changing their behavior, revising their beliefs, adding justifications, or minimizing the inconsistency. Studying belief behavior conflict helps psychologists explain decisions, attitude change, self-justification, and resistance to information that challenges existing views. The concept informs research and practice in health communication, education, organizational behavior, and behavior-change interventions, where aligning intentions with actions can improve decision-making and support more consistent, adaptive behavior.

This conflict model is used to measure the impairment of inhibitory control after exposure to addictive drugs, or other factors that may influence inhibitory control. A sexual stimulus and an aversive obstacle are concurrently presented, thus male rats have to conquer the obstacle to approach the sexual reward.

Life in a Population Organisms in populations interact with one another in complex ways, where individuals compete for resources such as food, shelter, and mates. These interactions are costly since individuals invest energy to acquire the resource, therefore there are a variety of strategies that organisms adopt to gain an advantage over their competitors. This is observed clearly with polymorphic mating systems, in which one sex, predominantly males, display multiple mating strategies. For...
