Optimization Techniques

Optimization techniques are systematic methods for identifying the best solution to a problem by maximizing or minimizing an objective while considering available constraints. In statistics, they define an objective function, such as a likelihood or loss function, and adjust model parameters iteratively until the function reaches an optimum, using approaches that may include gradient-based or derivative-free search. These methods support parameter estimation, regression, classification, experimental design, and model selection. Reliable optimization improves computational efficiency and helps researchers obtain accurate, reproducible results from complex data, although the chosen algorithm and starting conditions can influence convergence and solution quality.
