Relative Risk

Relative risk is a statistical measure that compares the probability of an outcome between two groups, making it useful for interpreting associations in health, biology, and social research. It is calculated by dividing the risk in an exposed or treatment group by the risk in an unexposed or control group; a value of 1 indicates equal risk, values above 1 suggest increased risk, and values below 1 suggest reduced risk. Researchers use relative risk to evaluate potential causes, compare interventions, and communicate study findings, while considering confidence intervals, study design, and whether the association supports meaningful conclusions about risk.
