Runs Test Method

The Runs Test Method is a nonparametric statistical procedure used to assess whether the order of observations in a sequence is random. It converts data into categories, such as values above or below a median, and counts runs, or uninterrupted groups of identical categories; the observed number of runs is then compared with the number expected under randomness. An unusually small or large count can indicate clustering, trends, or other dependence among observations. In statistics, the method supports quality control, time-series analysis, experimental data assessment, and validation of assumptions about random ordering.

Wald-Wolfowitz Runs Test II

2025

The Wald-Wolfowitz runs test, commonly referred to as the runs test, is a nonparametric test used to assess the randomness of ordered data. The test evaluates the number of runs, which are consecutive sequences of similar elements within the data. If the number of runs is significantly higher or lower than expected, the data is considered non-random, indicating a detectable pattern or structure. For binary data, runs are identified using symbols such as + and −, or equivalently, 1s and 0s. In...

2025

The Wald-Wolfowitz test, also known as the runs test, is a nonparametric statistical test used to assess the randomness of a sequence of two different types of elements (e.g., positive/negative values, successes/failures). It examines whether the order of the elements in a sequence is random or if there is a pattern or trend present. This nonparametric test applies to any ordered data despite the population and sample data distribution, even if a higher sample size is available. The test works...

2017

This study investigated lower-limb kinematics and ground reaction force (GRF) during moderate high-heeled jogging and running. Subjects were divided into groups of experienced wearers and inexperienced wearers. A three-dimensional motion analysis system with a configured force platform captured lower-limb joint movements and GRF.

2016

This study presents an innovative running wheel-based animal mobility system to quantify an effective exercise activity in rats. A rat-friendly testbed is built, using a predefined adaptive acceleration curve, and a high correlation between the effective exercise rate and the infarct volume suggests the protocol's potential for stroke prevention experiments.

Tracking Individual Running Metrics in Mice Using a Voluntary Wheel Running Protocol that Minimizes Social Isolation
