Sustained visual attention is the prolonged ability to selectively process aspects of a visual scene. Unlike brief focus required for crossing a street, everyday situations like driving through busy city streets demand sustained attention. In a complex world, paying attention to certain stimuli rather than others is critical for safety and survival.
