We report the first experimental study of the optical Stark effect in single semiconductor quantum dots (QD). For below band gap excitation, two-color pump-probe spectra show dispersive line shapes caused by a light-induced blueshift of the excitonic resonance. The line shape depends strongly on the excitation field strength and is determined by the pump-induced phase shift of the coherent QD polarization. Transient spectral oscillations can be understood as rotations of the QD polarization phase with negligible population change. Ultrafast control of the QD polarization is demonstrated.

Divulgamos el primer estudio experimental del efecto &oacute;ptico Stark en puntos cu&aacute;nticos de semiconductor &uacute;nico (QD). Por debajo de la excitaci&oacute;n de la brecha de banda, espectros bicolor bomba-sonda muestran formas de dispersi&oacute;n de la l&iacute;nea causadas por un blueshift inducida por la luz de la resonancia excitonic. La forma de la l&iacute;nea depende fuertemente de la intensidad de campo de excitaci&oacute;n y est&aacute; determinada por el desplazamiento de fase inducida por la bomba de la polarizaci&oacute;n de QD coherente. We demonstrate coherent nonlinear-optical control of excitons in a pair of quantum dots (QDs) coupled via dipolar interaction. The single-exciton population in the first QD is controlled by resonant picosecond excitation, giving rise to Rabi oscillations. As a result, the exciton transition in the second QD is spectrally shifted and concomitant Rabi oscillations are observed. We identify coupling between permanent excitonic dipole moments as the dominant interaction mechanism, whereas quasiresonant (FÃ¶rster) energy transfer is weak. Such control schemes based on dipolar interaction are a prerequisite for realizing scalable quantum logic gates.

Nous d&eacute;montrons coh&eacute;rent contr&ocirc;le optique non lin&eacute;aire des excitons dans une paire de quantum dots (QDs) coupl&eacute;s via l&#39;interaction dipolaire. La population de single excitons dans le premier QD est contr&ocirc;l&eacute;e par excitation r&eacute;sonante picoseconde, donnant lieu &agrave; des oscillations de Rabi. In vitro RNA degradation and modeling of in vivo degradation were applied on intact and degraded total RNA. Gene expression (eg, Bcl-2, GAPDH, PGK, PSME3, RAB2, BAX) was measured using RTQ-PCR. 18S rRNA proved to be the most constant house-keeping gene. Less than 10-fold degraded RNA can be quantified correctly when using 18S rRNA for normalization purposes. Higher-fold degraded RNA can be quantified correctly up to a precision that is comparable to RTQ-PCR measurements on intact RNA when simulating the RNA-species and tissue-specific degradation kinetic.

The nanoscale chemical composition variations of the surfaces of thin films of polystyrene- b-poly(methyl methacrylate) (PS- b-PMMA) diblock copolymers are investigated using apertureless near-field IR microscopy. The scattering of the incident infrared beam from a modulated atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip is probed using homodyne detection and demodulation at the tip oscillation frequency. An increase in the IR attenuation is observed in the PMMA-rich domains with a wavenumber dependence that is consistent with the bulk absorption spectrum. The results indicate that even though a small topography-induced artifact can be observed in the near-field images, the chemical signature of the sample is detected clearly.

Objective of this study was the application principles of cryoprotection as observed in nature, occurring in animals or plants, for ice-free cryopreservation (IFC) of heart valves. Using IFC, valves were processed and stored above the glass transition temperature of the cryoprotectant formulation (-124 degrees C) at -80 degrees C to avoid any ice formation, tissue-glass cracking and preserving ECM. After implantation in the orthotopic pulmonary position in sheep, we demonstrate that IFC resulted in cell free matrices, while maintaining crucial ECM-components such as elastin and collagen, translating into superior hemodynamics. In contrast, we reveal that FC valves showed ECM damage that was not restored in vivo, and T-cell inflammation of the stroma with significant leaflet thickening. Compared to currently applied FC practice IFC also reduced infrastructural needs for preservation, storage and shipping. These results have important implications for clinical valve transplantation including the promise of better long-term function and lower costs.

Transplantation von kryokonservierten Herzklappen (Allograften) wird von Immunantworten, Entz&uuml;ndung, sp&auml;tere strukturelle Verschlechterung und eine teure Infrastruktur beschr&auml;nkt. In fr&uuml;heren Studien zeigten wir, dass konventionelle gefrorenen Kryokonservierung (FC) mit schweren Ver&auml;nderungen der extrazellul&auml;ren Matrix (ECM) Strukturen einhergeht. Als die Hauptschuldigen der beobachteten Sch&auml;den wurde Kristall Eisbildung identifiziert. Ziel dieser Studie war die Anwendung Prinzipien der Cryoprotection, wie in der Natur, in Tieren oder Pflanzen, f&uuml;r eisfreie Kryokonservierung (IFC) von Herzklappen auftreten beobachtet. In studi precedenti abbiamo dimostrato che convenzionale crioconservazione congelati (FC) &egrave; accompagnata da gravi alterazioni delle strutture della matrice extracellulare (ECM). Come il principale colpevole dei danni osservati &egrave; stata identificata la formazione di cristalli di ghiaccio. Obiettivo di questo studio era i principi di applicazione della cryoprotection come osservato in natura, che si verificano negli animali o piante, per la crioconservazione libero dai ghiacci (IFC) di valvole cardiache. Utilizzando IFC, valvole sono stati elaborati e conservati di sopra della temperatura di transizione vetrosa della formulazione cryoprotectant (-124 gradi C) a-80 gradi C per evitare eventuali formazioni di ghiaccio, tessuto di vetro di cracking e preservare ECM. Dopo l&#39;impianto in posizione polmonare ortotopico negli ovini, dimostriamo che la IFC ha portato in matrici free cell, mantenendo ECM-componenti cruciali quali elastina e collagene, traducendo in emodinamica superiore. Al contrario, vi sveliamo che valvole FC ha mostrato danni di ECM che non &egrave; stato ripristinato in vivo e infiammazione delle cellule T di stroma con ispessimento significativo opuscolo. Rispetto alla pratica FC attualmente applicata IFC ridotto anche esigenze infrastrutturali per la conservazione, lo stoccaggio e spedizione in Italia. Trasplante de v&aacute;lvulas del coraz&oacute;n criopreservados (aloinjertos) est&aacute; limitado por la respuesta inmune, inflamaci&oacute;n, posterior deterioro estructural y una costosa infraestructura. En estudios previos hemos demostrado que eso criopreservaci&oacute;n congelado convencional (FC) se acompa&ntilde;a de alteraciones graves de las estructuras de la matriz extracelular (MEC). Como el principal responsable de los da&ntilde;os observados se identific&oacute; la formaci&oacute;n de cristales de hielo. Objetivo de este estudio fue los principios de aplicaci&oacute;n de crioprotecci&oacute;n seg&uacute;n lo observado en la naturaleza, que ocurren en animales o plantas, para la criopreservaci&oacute;n sin hielo (IFC) de las v&aacute;lvulas del coraz&oacute;n. Usando el IFC, v&aacute;lvulas fueron procesadas y almacenadas por encima de la temperatura de transici&oacute;n v&iacute;trea de la formulaci&oacute;n de crioprotector (-124 grados C) a-80 grados C para evitar cualquier formaci&oacute;n de hielo, tejido de vidrio que se agrieta y la preservaci&oacute;n de ECM. Despu&eacute;s de la implantaci&oacute;n en la posici&oacute;n pulmonar ortot&oacute;pico en ovejas, demostramos que IFC dio lugar a matrices libre de la c&eacute;lula, manteniendo ECM-componentes cruciales como la elastina y col&aacute;geno, traduciendo hemodin&aacute;mica superior. En cambio, nos revelan que las v&aacute;lvulas FC demostraron da&ntilde;o de ECM que no fue restaurada en vivo e inflamaci&oacute;n de la t-c&eacute;lula del estroma con engrosamiento importante prospecto. En comparaci&oacute;n con pr&aacute;ctica aplicada actualmente de FC IFC tambi&eacute;n redujo las necesidades de infraestructuras para la preservaci&oacute;n, el almacenamiento y env&iacute;o. Proteases play a decisive role in health and disease. They fulfil diverse functions and have been associated with the pathology of gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The current knowledge focuses on host-derived proteases including matrix metalloproteinases, various serine proteases and cathepsins. The possible contribution of bacterial proteases has been largely ignored in the pathogenesis of IBD and IBS, although there is increasing evidence, especially demonstrated for proteases from pathogenic bacteria. The underlying mechanisms extend to proteases from commensal bacteria which may be relevant for disease susceptibility. The intestinal microbiota and its proteolytic capacity exhibit the potential to contribute to the pathogenesis of IBD and IBS. This review highlights the relevance of host- and bacteria-derived proteases and their signalling mechanisms.

In this paper, we propose an automatic method to directly extract 3D dynamic left ventricle (LV) model from sparse 2D rotational angiocardiogram (each cardiac phase contains only five projections). The extracted dynamic model provides quantitative cardiac function for analysis. The overlay of the model onto 2D real-time fluoroscopic images provides valuable visual guidance during cardiac intervention. Though containing severe cardiac motion artifacts, an ungated CT reconstruction is used in our approach to extract a rough static LV model. The initialized LV model is projected onto each 2D projection image. The silhouette of the projected mesh is deformed to match the boundary of LV blood pool. The deformation vectors of the silhouette are back-projected to 3D space and used as anchor points for thin plate spline (TPS) interpolation of other mesh points. The proposed method is validated on 12 synthesized datasets. The extracted 3D LV meshes match the ground truth quite well with a mean point-to-mesh error of 0.51 +/- 0.11 mm. The preliminary experiments on two real datasets (included a patient and a pig) show promising results too.

Automatic extraction of 3D dynamic left ventricle model from 2D rotational angiocardiogram.

2D &#xD68C;&#xC804; angiocardiogram&#xC5D0;&#xC11C; 3D &#xB3D9;&#xC801; &#xC88C; &#xC2EC; &#xC2E4; &#xBAA8;&#xB378; &#xC790;&#xB3D9; &#xCD94;&#xCD9C;.

En este trabajo, se propone un m&eacute;todo autom&aacute;tico para extraer directamente modelo din&aacute;mico 3D de la ventr&iacute;culo izquierdo (LV) de escasa angiocardiogram rotaci&oacute;n 2D (cada fase cardiaca contiene s&oacute;lo cinco proyecciones). El modelo din&aacute;mico extra&iacute;do proporciona la funci&oacute;n cardiaca cuantitativa para el an&aacute;lisis. El recubrimiento del modelo en 2D im&aacute;genes fluorosc&oacute;picas en tiempo real proporciona valiosa orientaci&oacute;n visual durante la intervenci&oacute;n cardiaca. Aunque con artefactos de movimiento cardiaco severo, una reconstrucci&oacute;n ungated de CT se utiliza en nuestro enfoque para extraer un modelo est&aacute;tico &aacute;spero del LV. El modelo LV inicializado se proyecta sobre cada imagen de proyecci&oacute;n 2D. La silueta de la malla proyectada se deforma para que coincida con el l&iacute;mite de la piscina de sangre LV. Los vectores de deformaci&oacute;n de la silueta son retroproyecci&oacute;n a espacio 3D y utilizan como puntos de anclaje para la interpolaci&oacute;n spline (TPS) de placa delgada de otros puntos de la malla. El m&eacute;todo propuesto es validado en 12 conjuntos de datos sintetizados. Las mallas 3D extra&iacute;das del LV coinciden con la verdad de la tierra bastante bien con un error medio de punto-de-malla de 0,51 +/-0.11 mm. Los experimentos preliminares en dos conjuntos de datos reales (incluido un paciente y un cerdo) Mostrar resultados prometedores demasiado.
