Biography

Dr. Tristan Nicholson, MD, PhD attended University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry as a student in the Medical Scientist (MD/PhD) Training Program, during which time she was elected into Alpha Omega Alpha as a senior medical student and received the Robert E. Kates Award for excellence in clinical medicine and research and the Glasgow-Rubin Citation for graduating first in the MD class of 2015. Her PhD research, entitled “Estrogen receptor-alpha is a key mediator and therapeutic target in benign prostatic hyperplasia,” was conducted In Absentia at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the mentorship of William Ricke, PhD; she was supported by a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual MD/PhD Fellowship from the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Dr. Nicholson is currently a Urology resident at the University of Washington. She is conducting research under the mentorship of Dr. Ashleigh Theberge, PhD and Dr. Thomas Walsh, MD, MS in the Bioanalytical Chemistry for Medicine and the Environment Lab to evaluate steroid production and spermatogenesis with creation of a “testis on a chip” microscale cell culture model system. Her clinical and research interests include benign prostatic hyperplasia/lower urinary tract symptoms, male infertility, andrology and transgender health.
