Two different aliphatic polycarbonates were synthesised from CO(2) and the respective epoxides. Poly(propyl carbonate) (PPC) was prepared by heterogeneous catalysis with zinc glutarate. Poly(cyclohexyl carbonate) (PCHC) was prepared via living copolymerisation homogeneously catalysed by a 3-amino-2-cyanoimidoacrylate zinc acetate complex and subjected to electrospinning. The obtained nanofibres had a well-defined morphology free of beads along the fibres and with slightly porous structures on their surface. Subsequently, low-power deep UV irradiations, previously applied for photochemical surface modifications of two-dimensional and three-dimensional scaffolds from biostable polymers, were performed. Here, an effect on surface and bulk properties of PPC nanofibres was observed. Surface modifications of both polymers affected plasma protein adsorption. Photochemical bulk modifications observed for the first time on PPC nanofibres are indicating the possibility of spatial control of biodegradation rates, hence allow for control of the progression of host/implant interactions in vivo. In particular PPC was used for cell culture of L929 fibroblasts and primary rat hepatocytes. Even delicate primary cells showed good adhesion to the scaffolds and high viability.

Deux des polycarbonates aliphatiques diff&eacute;rents ont &eacute;t&eacute; synth&eacute;tis&eacute;s &agrave; partir de CO(2) et les &eacute;poxydes respectifs. Poly(propyl carbonate) (PPC) a &eacute;t&eacute; pr&eacute;par&eacute; par catalyse h&eacute;t&eacute;rog&egrave;ne avec glutarate de zinc. Poly(cyclohexyl carbonate) (PCHC) a &eacute;t&eacute; pr&eacute;par&eacute; par copolym&eacute;risation de vie homog&egrave;ne catalys&eacute;e par un complexe d&#39;ac&eacute;tate de zinc 3-amino-2-cyanoimidoacrylate et soumis &agrave; &eacute;lectrofilage. Les nanofibres obtenus avaient une morphologie bien d&eacute;finie gratuite de perles le long des fibres et des structures l&eacute;g&egrave;rement poreux sur leur surface. Par la suite, profondes irradiations UV de faible puissance, pr&eacute;c&eacute;demment demand&eacute;es des modifications de surface photochimiques d&#39;&eacute;chafaudages bidimensionnelles et tridimensionnelles &agrave; partir de polym&egrave;res biostable, ont &eacute;t&eacute; effectu&eacute;es. Ici, a &eacute;t&eacute; observ&eacute; un effet sur les propri&eacute;t&eacute;s de surfaces et en vrac de nanofibres PPC. Modifications de surface de deux polym&egrave;res touch&eacute;s adsorption de prot&eacute;ine de plasma. Modifications en vrac photochimique observ&eacute;es pour la premi&egrave;re fois sur PPC nanofibres sont indiquant la possibilit&eacute; de contr&ocirc;le spatial de taux de biod&eacute;gradation, donc autoriser pour le contr&ocirc;le de la progression des interactions h&ocirc;te/implant in vivo. En particulier, PPC a &eacute;t&eacute; utilis&eacute; pour la culture cellulaire des fibroblastes L929 et des h&eacute;patocytes primaires. M&ecirc;me d&eacute;licates cellules primaires ont montr&eacute; la bonne adh&eacute;rence sur les &eacute;chafaudages et grande viabilit&eacute;.

Zwei verschiedene aliphatische Polycarbonaten wurden von CO(2) und die jeweiligen Epoxide synthetisiert. Poly(Propyl Carbonate) (PPC) bereitete die heterogene Katalyse mit Zink-Glutarat. Poly(cyclohexyl Carbonate) (PCHC) bereitete sich &uuml;ber lebende Copolymerisation homogen katalysiert durch einen 3-amino-2-Cyanoimidoacrylate-Zink-Acetat-komplex und Elektrospinnen ausgesetzt. Die erhaltene Nanofibres hatte eine klar definierte Morphologie, die frei von Perlen entlang der Fasern und mit leicht por&ouml;sen Strukturen auf ihrer Oberfl&auml;che. Anschlie&szlig;end wurden die stromsparenden Tiefe UV Bestrahlungen, zuvor beantragte photochemische Oberfl&auml;che Modifikationen des zweidimensionalen und dreidimensionalen Ger&uuml;sten aus Biostable Polymeren, durchgef&uuml;hrt. Hier wurde die Beeinflussung der Oberfl&auml;che und Masse Eigenschaften des PPC Nanofibres beobachtet. Oberfl&auml;che Modifikationen von beiden Polymeren beeinflusst Plasma Proteinadsorption. Photochemische Masse &Auml;nderungen beobachtet erstmals auf PPC Nanofibres an, die M&ouml;glichkeit der r&auml;umlichen Steuerung der biologischen Abbau Preise, daher erm&ouml;glichen eine Kontrolle der Progression von Host/Implantat-Interaktionen in-vivo. Insbesondere wurde die PPC f&uuml;r Zellkultur L929 Fibroblasten und prim&auml;re Ratte Hepatozyten verwendet. Sogar zarte Prim&auml;rzellen zeigte guten Haftung auf den Ger&uuml;sten und hohe Rentabilit&auml;t.

Due differenti policarbonati alifatici sono stati sintetizzati da mentre e i rispettivi epossidi. Poly(propyl carbonate) (PPC) &egrave; stata preparata da catalisi eterogenea con zinco glutarato. Poly(cyclohexyl carbonate) (PCHC) &egrave; stato preparato mediante copolimerizzazione viventi in modo omogeneo catalizzato da un complesso di acetato di zinco 3-ammino-2-cyanoimidoacrylate e sottoposto a elettrofilatura. Le nanofibre ottenute ha una morfologia ben definita libera di perline lungo le fibre e con strutture leggermente porosi sulla loro superficie. Successivamente, profondo irradianza UV a bassa potenza, in precedenza applicato per modifiche superficiali fotochimiche di ponteggi bidimensionale e tridimensionale da polimeri biostabili, sono state eseguite. Qui, &egrave; stato osservato un effetto sulle propriet&agrave; di superficie e bulk di nanofibre PPC. Modifiche superficiali di entrambi polimeri colpite adsorbimento di proteine del plasma. Modifiche alla rinfusa fotochimico osservate per la prima volta su PPC nanofibre sono che indica la possibilit&agrave; di controllo territoriale dei tassi di biodegradazione, quindi Consenti per controllo della progressione delle interazioni ospite/impianto in vivo. In particolare PPC &egrave; stato utilizzato per la coltura cellulare L929 fibroblasti e gli epatociti primari di ratto. Anche delicate cellule primarie ha mostrate buona adesione alle impalcature e alta redditivit&agrave;.

Se sintetizaron los policarbonatos alif&aacute;ticos diferentes dos de co (2) y los respectivos ep&oacute;xidos. Poly(propyl carbonate) (PPC) fue preparado por Cat&aacute;lisis heterog&eacute;nea con glutarato de cinc. Poly(cyclohexyl carbonate) (PCHC) fue preparado por copolimerizaci&oacute;n de vida homog&eacute;neo catalizada por un complejo de acetato de cinc 3-amino-2-cyanoimidoacrylate y sometidos a electrospinning. Las nanofibras obtenidos ten&iacute;an una morfolog&iacute;a bien definida de granos a lo largo de las fibras y con estructuras porosas ligeramente en su superficie. Posteriormente, se realizaron profundas irradiaciones de UV de baja potencia, previamente solicitados modificaciones superficiales fotoqu&iacute;micas de andamios bidimensionales y tridimensionales de pol&iacute;meros bioestable. Aqu&iacute;, se observ&oacute; un efecto de nanofibras PPC propiedades superficiales y a granel. Modificaci&oacute;n superficial de ambos pol&iacute;meros afectados adsorci&oacute;n de prote&iacute;nas del plasma. Modificaciones fotoqu&iacute;micas a granel observadas por primera vez en nanofibras PPC est&aacute;n indicando la posibilidad de control espacial de las tasas de biodegradaci&oacute;n, permite por lo tanto, para el control de la progresi&oacute;n de host/implante interacciones in vivo. En particular el PPC fue utilizado para el cultivo celular de fibroblastos de eluci&oacute;n de L929 y hepatocitos primarios de rata. Incluso delicadas c&eacute;lulas primarias demostr&oacute; buena adherencia a los andamios y alta viabilidad.

The review summarizes current trends and developments in the polymerization of alkylene oxides in the last two decades since 1995, with a particular focus on the most important epoxide monomers ethylene oxide (EO), propylene oxide (PO), and butylene oxide (BO). Classical synthetic pathways, i.e., anionic polymerization, coordination polymerization, and cationic polymerization of epoxides (oxiranes), are briefly reviewed. The main focus of the review lies on more recent and in some cases metal-free methods for epoxide polymerization, i.e., the activated monomer strategy, the use of organocatalysts, such as N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and N-heterocyclic olefins (NHOs) as well as phosphazene bases. In addition, the commercially relevant double-metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst systems are discussed. Besides the synthetic progress, new types of multifunctional linear PEG (mf-PEG) and PPO structures accessible by copolymerization of EO or PO with functional epoxide comonomers are presented as well as complex branched, hyperbranched, and dendrimer like polyethers. Amphiphilic block copolymers based on PEO and PPO (Poloxamers and Pluronics) and advances in the area of PEGylation as the most important bioconjugation strategy are also summarized. With the ever growing toolbox for epoxide polymerization, a "polyether universe" may be envisaged that in its structural diversity parallels the immense variety of structural options available for polymers based on vinyl monomers with a purely carbon-based backbone.

Polymerization of Ethylene Oxide, Propylene Oxide, and Other Alkylene Oxides: Synthesis, Novel Polymer Architectures, and Bioconjugation.

Many biomaterials used for tissue engineering applications lack cell-adhesiveness and, in addition, are prone to nonspecific adsorption of proteins. This is especially important for blood-contacting devices such as vascular grafts and valves where appropriate surface properties should inhibit the initial attachment of platelets and promote endothelial cell colonization. As a consequence, the long-term outcome of the implants would be improved and the need for anticoagulation therapy could be reduced or even abolished. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), a frequently used polymer for various medical applications, was wet-chemically activated and subsequently modified by grafting the endothelial cell (EC) specific peptide arginine-glutamic acid-aspartic acid-valine (REDV) using a bifunctional polyethylene glycol (PEG)-spacer (known to reduce platelet and nonspecific protein adhesion). Modified and control surfaces were both evaluated in terms of EC adhesion, colonization, and the attachment of platelets. In addition, samples underwent bacterial challenges. The results strongly suggested that PEG-mediated peptide immobilization renders PTFE an excellent substrate for cellular growth while simultaneously endowing the material with antifouling properties.
