Conditioned behavior as observed during classical conditioning in a group of identically treated animals provides insights into the physiological process of learning and memory formation. However, several studies in vertebrates found a remarkable difference between the group-average behavioral performance and the behavioral characteristics of individual animals. Here, we analyzed a large number of data (1640 animals) on olfactory conditioning in the honeybee (Apis mellifera). The data acquired during absolute and differential classical conditioning differed with respect to the number of conditioning trials, the conditioned odors, the intertrial intervals, and the time of retention tests. We further investigated data in which animals were tested for spontaneous recovery from extinction. In all data sets we found that the gradually increasing group-average learning curve did not adequately represent the behavior of individual animals. Individual behavior was characterized by a rapid and stable acquisition of the conditioned response (CR), as well as by a rapid and stable cessation of the CR following unrewarded stimuli. In addition, we present and evaluate different model hypotheses on how honeybees form associations during classical conditioning by implementing a gradual learning process on the one hand and an all-or-none learning process on the other hand. In summary, our findings advise that individual behavior should be recognized as a meaningful predictor for the internal state of a honeybee--irrespective of the group-average behavioral performance.

Comportement conditionn&#xE9; comme on l&#x26;#39;observe au cours du conditionnement classique dans un groupe d&#x26;#39;animaux trait&#xE9;s &#xE0; l&#x26;#39;identique donne un aper&#xE7;u du processus physiologique de l&#x26;#39;apprentissage et la formation de la m&#xE9;moire. Cependant, plusieurs &#xE9;tudes chez les vert&#xE9;br&#xE9;s ont constat&#xE9; une diff&#xE9;rence remarquable entre la performance du groupe &#xE0; la moyenne du comportement et les caract&#xE9;ristiques comportementales des animaux individuels. Ici, nous avons analys&#xE9; un grand nombre de donn&#xE9;es (1640 animaux) sur le conditionnement olfactif chez l&#x26;#39;abeille domestique (Apis mellifera). Les donn&#xE9;es acquises au cours de conditionnement classique absolu et diff&#xE9;rentiel diff&#xE9;raient en ce qui concerne le nombre d&#x26;#39;essais de conditionnement, les odeurs et climatis&#xE9;es, les intervalles intertrial, et le temps des tests de r&#xE9;tention. Nous avons en outre &#xE9;tudi&#xE9; de donn&#xE9;es dans laquelle les animaux ont &#xE9;t&#xE9; test&#xE9;s pour la r&#xE9;cup&#xE9;ration spontan&#xE9;e de l&#x26;#39;extinction. Dans tous les ensembles de donn&#xE9;es nous avons constat&#xE9; que la courbe d&#x26;#39;apprentissage en augmentant progressivement le groupe &#xE0; la moyenne ne repr&#xE9;sente pas ad&#xE9;quatement le comportement des animaux individuels. Le comportement individuel a &#xE9;t&#xE9; caract&#xE9;ris&#xE9; par une acquisition rapide et stable de la r&#xE9;ponse conditionn&#xE9;e (RC), ainsi que par un arr&#xEA;t rapide et stable des stimuli suivants CR r&#xE9;compens&#xE9;es. En outre, nous pr&#xE9;sentons et d&#x26;#39;&#xE9;valuer les hypoth&#xE8;ses de mod&#xE8;les diff&#xE9;rents sur la fa&#xE7;on dont les abeilles forment des associations pendant le conditionnement classique par la mise en &#x153;uvre d&#x26;#39;un processus d&#x26;#39;apprentissage progressif d&#x26;#39;une part et un processus d&#x26;#39;apprentissage tout-ou-rien, d&#x26;#39;autre part. En r&#xE9;sum&#xE9;, nos r&#xE9;sultats informer que le comportement individuel devrait &#xEA;tre reconnue comme un pr&#xE9;dicteur significatif pour l&#x26;#39;&#xE9;tat interne d&#x26;#39;une abeille - ind&#xE9;pendamment de la performance du groupe &#xE0; la moyenne du comportement.

Konditionierte Verhalten als beobachteten w&auml;hrend Klassische Konditionierung in einer Gruppe identisch behandelter Tiere gibt Einblicke in den physiologischen Prozess lernen und Ged&auml;chtnis-Formation. Mehrere Studien bei Wirbeltieren fand jedoch einen bemerkenswerten Unterschied zwischen der Konzerndurchschnitt Verhaltens-Leistung und die Verhaltensmerkmale einzelner Tiere. Hier analysieren wir eine gro&szlig;e Anzahl von Daten (1640 Tiere) auf olfaktorische Konditionierung in die Honigbiene (Apis Mellifera). Die Daten, die w&auml;hrend der absoluten und differenzielle Klassische Konditionierung erworben unterschieden sich in Bezug auf die Anzahl der Konditionierung Studien, die bedingte Ger&uuml;che, die intertrial Intervalle und die Zeit der Aufbewahrung Pr&uuml;fungen. Wir untersuchten weitere Daten, die bei denen Tiere f&uuml;r spontane Erholung vor dem Aussterben getestet wurden. In allen Datens&auml;tzen fanden wir, dass die allm&auml;hlich zunehmende Konzerndurchschnitt Lernkurve nicht angemessen das Verhalten einzelner Tiere dar. Individuelles Verhalten zeichnete sich durch eine schnelle und stabile Akquisition der konditionierten Reaktion (CR) sowie durch eine schnelle und stabile Einstellung unbelohnt Reize nach CR. Dar&uuml;ber hinaus haben wir pr&auml;sentieren und anderes Modell Hypothesen &uuml;ber wie Honigbienen Verb&auml;nde w&auml;hrend Klassische Konditionierung bilden, durch die Implementierung einer schrittweisen Lernprozess einerseits und ein termingebundener Lernprozess auf der anderen Seite zu bewerten. Zusammenfassend l&auml;sst sich sagen beraten unsere Ergebnisse, dass individuelles Verhalten als eine sinnvolle Pr&auml;diktor f&uuml;r den internen Zustand des einer Honigbiene--unabh&auml;ngig von der Gruppe &uuml;berdurchschnittlich verhaltensbasierte Leistung erkannt werden sollen.

Durchschnittliche Gruppenverhalten vertritt nicht individuelles Verhalten in Klassische Konditionierung von der Honigbiene.

Comportamento condizionato come osservato durante il condizionamento classico in un gruppo di animali trattati in modo identico fornisce intuizioni il processo fisiologico di formazione apprendimento e memoria. Tuttavia, diversi studi nei vertebrati trovano una notevole differenza tra le prestazioni comportamentali di gruppo-media e le caratteristiche del comportamento dei singoli animali. Qui, abbiamo analizzato un gran numero di dati (1640 animali) sul condizionamento olfattivo nell&#39;APE (Apis mellifera). I dati acquisiti durante il condizionamento classico assoluto e differenziale differiscono per quanto riguarda il numero di prove, gli odori condizionati, gli intervalli di intertrial e il tempo di ritenzione test di condizionamento. Abbiamo studiato ulteriormente dati in cui gli animali sono stati testati per la guarigione spontanea dall&#39;estinzione. In tutti i set di dati, abbiamo trovato che la curva di apprendimento di gruppo-media gradualmente crescente non rappresenta adeguatamente il comportamento dei singoli animali. Comportamento individuale &egrave; stato caratterizzato da una rapida e stabile acquisizione della risposta condizionata (CR), nonch&eacute; da una rapida e stabile cessazione CR seguendo stimoli unrewarded. Inoltre, siamo presenti e valutare ipotesi di modello differenti su come le API formano associazioni durante il condizionamento classico implementando invece un graduale processo di apprendimento da un lato e un processo di apprendimento definitivo. In sintesi, i nostri risultati consigliano che il comportamento individuale dovrebbe essere riconosciuto come un predittore significativo per lo stato interno di un ape - indipendentemente dalla resa comportamentale di gruppo-media.

Comportamiento condicionado como se observ&#xF3; durante el condicionamiento cl&#xE1;sico, en un grupo de animales tratados id&#xE9;nticamente proporciona informaci&#xF3;n detallada sobre el proceso fisiol&#xF3;gico del aprendizaje y la formaci&#xF3;n de la memoria. Sin embargo, varios estudios en los vertebrados se encontr&#xF3; una diferencia notable entre el rendimiento del grupo de la media del comportamiento y las caracter&#xED;sticas de comportamiento de los animales individuales. En este caso, hemos analizado una gran cantidad de datos (1640 animales) en el condicionamiento olfativo en la abeja mel&#xED;fera (Apis mellifera). Los datos adquiridos durante el condicionamiento cl&#xE1;sico, absoluta y diferencial difieren con respecto al n&#xFA;mero de ensayos de condicionamiento, los olores acondicionado, los intervalos entre ensayos, y el tiempo de las pruebas de retenci&#xF3;n. Adem&#xE1;s, investig&#xF3; los datos en la que los animales se pusieron a prueba para la recuperaci&#xF3;n espont&#xE1;nea de la extinci&#xF3;n. En todos los conjuntos de datos se encontr&#xF3; que el aumento gradual del grupo a la media curva de aprendizaje no representan adecuadamente el comportamiento de los animales individuales. El comportamiento individual se caracteriza por una r&#xE1;pida adquisici&#xF3;n y estable de la respuesta condicionada (RC), as&#xED; como por un cese r&#xE1;pido y estable de los est&#xED;mulos siguientes CR recompensa. Adem&#xE1;s, presentar y evaluar diferentes hip&#xF3;tesis de modelo sobre c&#xF3;mo las abejas formar asociaciones en el condicionamiento cl&#xE1;sico mediante la implementaci&#xF3;n de un proceso gradual de aprendizaje, por un lado y un proceso de aprendizaje de todo o ninguno en la otra mano. En resumen, nuestros resultados recomendamos que el comportamiento individual debe ser reconocido como un predictor significativo para el estado interno de una abeja - independientemente de los resultados del comportamiento del grupo de la media.
