A method was developed for the simultaneous determination of Sudan Red I, II, III and IV in foods by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a clean-up procedure by gel column. Sample was extracted from foods with ethanol. The extract was cleaned up with a Bio-Beads SX3 gel column (200 mm x 10 mm i. d. ) and eluted with cyclohexane-ethyl acetate (1:1, v/v). The analysis was performed on a Symmetry Shield RP18 column (250 mm x 4. 6 mm i. d. , 5 microm) with 100% methanol as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.5 mL/min, detection at 478 nm and confirmation by diode-array spectra. All of the four compounds demonstrated good linear relationship (r > 0.999) in the range of 0.1 - 10.0 mg/L. The limits of detection (LOD) were from 7 to 14 microg/kg. The average recoveries for all four dyes (spiked at the levels of 0.25 and 2. 5 mg/kg) in chili sauce and sausage ranged from 80.7% to 96.3%, and the relative standard deviations were from 2.4% to 5.9%. The method is sensitive, reliable and can be applied for the analysis of four Sudan Red dyes in foods.

[Determination of chloramphenicol in cosmetics by GC-MS].

A method was developed for the determination of five hormone residues in fish tissue by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with gel permeation chromatographic (GPC) clean-up. The sample was extracted with ethyl acetate-methanol (8:2, v/v). The extract was cleaned-up on a Pharmadex LH-20 gel permeation column (450 mm x 15 mm) and eluted with methanol-ethyl acetate-acetic acid (800:200:2, v/v/v). The analysis was performed on an Agilent TC-C18 column (250 mm x 4. 6 mm, 5 microm) using acetonitrile-water (45:55, v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.2 mL/min and the detection wavelengths were set at 222 nm and 245 nm. All of the 5 hormone residues had good linear relationships (r > 0.999) in the range of 0.05-2.5 mg/L. The limits of detection (LOD) were from 10 to 24 microg/kg. The average recoveries for all the five hormone residues were from 60.1% to 89.0%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) from 2.0% to 7.4%. The method is simple, rapid, and can be applied for the analysis of the five hormone residues in fish tissue.

Daily music experience involves synchronizing movements in time with a perceived periodic beat. It has been established for over a century that beat synchronization is less stable for the visual than for the auditory modality. This auditory advantage of beat synchronization gives rise to the hypotheses that the neural and evolutionary mechanisms underlying beat synchronization are modality-specific. Here, however, we found that synchronization to a periodically bouncing ball with a realistic motion trajectory was not less stable than synchronization to an auditory metronome. This finding challenges the auditory advantage of beat synchronization, and has important implications for the understanding of the biological substrates of beat synchronization.

Synchronization to a bouncing ball with a realistic motion trajectory.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic, relapsing inflammatory disease with increasing incidence and prevalence worldwide. In previous years, the accumulation of microarray data has provided us an approach to obtain further insight into CD. In the present study, the microarray data of CD was comprehensively analyzed using multiple bioinformatics methods, and the pathobiological process of the disease was examined. Gene expression data from colon tissues of patients with CD were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database; following which differentially expressed genes were identified between CD and control sample groups. Subsequently, Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses were performed to investigate which functions and pathways in which the differentially expressed genes enriched. TargetScan and miRDB databases were then used to predict which microRNAs (miRNAs) regulated the differentially expressed genes. As a result, a total of 432 differentially expressed genes, including 229 upregulated and 203 downregulated genes, including matrix metallopeptidase 3 and glutathione S‑transferase α1, were identified in CD samples. These differentially expressed genes were significantly involved in regulation of the inflammatory response, innate immune response, cell migration, extracellular matrix organization, Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription signaling pathway, and cytokine‑cytokine receptor interaction. The miRNA-gene network showed that miR‑149‑3p and miR‑4447 regulated the most differentially expressed genes. These findings extend current understanding of the mechanisms underlying CD, and the differentially expressed genes and regulator miRNAs identified may be used as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for CD.
