Biography

Tomohiro Kawahara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Functions Engineering, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology. His research interest centered around Dynamic Sensing and Control for investigation of mechanical characteristics of body, organ, tissue and cells by utilizing Novel Actuators and Sensors based on Medical Robotics, Micro Robotics, MEMS, and MicroTAS technologies. It contributes discovery of mechanisms of living organisms and development of innovative actuators and sensors.

Kawahara obtained his Ph.D. in Sensing and Control Engineering from Hiroshima University in 2006, under the supervision of Prof. Makoto Kaneko. After three-years postdoctoral research at Hiroshima University Hospital, he joined Prof. Fumihito Arai’s group at Tohoku University and Nagoya University. From 2010, he joined the faculty of Kyushu Institute of Technology as a principal investigator. Since 2002, Kawahara has published more than 40 journals and 100 international conference papers.
