Differential diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) and other neurodegenerative parkinsonism by clinical consensus criteria and diagnostic imaging is often difficult. (123)I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine ((123)I-MIBG) myocardial scintigraphy is a useful imaging tool for differentiating PD from other parkinsonism. The purpose of the present study is to systematically review and perform a meta-analysis of studies on the diagnostic performance of (123)I-MIBG myocardial scintigraphy for the differential diagnosis of PD and other neurodegenerative parkinsonism, specifically multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, and corticobasal degeneration.

We aimed to provide widely-available reference data using several low cut filters.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is used in a variety of disorders after stroke including upper limb motor dysfunctions, hemispatial neglect, aphasia, and apraxia, and its effectiveness has been demonstrated. Although gait ability is important for daily living, there were few reports of the use of tDCS to improve balance and gait ability. The supplementary motor area (SMA) was reported to play a potentially important role in balance recovery after stroke. We aimed to investigate the effect of combined therapy body weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT) and tDCS on gait function recovery of stroke patients. Thirty stroke inpatients participated in this study. The two BWSTT periods of 1weeks each, with real tDCS (anode: front of Cz, cathode: inion, 1mA, 20min) on SMA and sham stimulation, were randomized in a double-blind crossover design. We measured the time required for the 10m Walk Test (10MWT) and Timed Up and Go (TUG) test before and after each period. We found that the real tDCS with BWSTT significantly improved gait speed (10MWT) and applicative walking ability (TUG), compared with BWSTT+sham stimulation periods (p<0.05). Our findings demonstrated the feasibility and efficacy of tDCS in gait training after stroke. The facilitative effects of tDCS on SMA possibly improved postural control during BWSTT. The results indicated the implications for the use of tDCS in balance and gait training rehabilitation after stroke.

Acute Wallenberg's syndrome (WS) is sometimes misdiagnosed as a nonstroke disease including auditory vertigo, and careful neurological examination is required for a precise diagnosis. Lateral difference of body surface temperature (BST) had been reported as a symptom of WS, although further details of this symptom are currently lacking. Our aim was to investigate the laterality of BST of patients with acute WS using thermography and the usefulness of thermography to detect acute WS.

Utility of thermographic measurements of laterality of body surface temperature to prevent misdiagnosis of acute Wallenberg's syndrome.

•Neutrophilic meningitis is rarely observed in Adult onset Still's disease (AOSD).•AOSD-related meningitis has been observed in the AOSD course of young adults.•An elderly man showed neutrophilic meningitis as a first symptom of AOSD.•First-line therapy with steroid for bacterial meningitis complicated the diagnosis.•Hyperferritinemia led to the correct diagnosis of AOSD and AOSD-related meningitis.
