Brent Aulston

Brent Aulston is a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Neurosciences at the University of California San Diego. He received his B.Sc. from Colorado State University and his Ph.D. from the University of Manitoba. Dr. Aulston’s graduate work examined the biochemical link between diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease and also tested the therapeutic potential of secreted amyloid precursor protein alpha as treatment for dementia-linked insulin signaling dysfunction.

After his graduate training, Dr. Aulston joined Dr. Shauna Yuan’s lab at UCSD to study the mechanisms that underlie disease propagation in Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Dr. Yuan’s lab utilizes patient derived neuronal cell lines as in conjunction with in vivo models in order to investigate the pathogenicity of protein aggregates. Future studies by Dr. Aulston and the Yuan lab will aim to identify interventions that slow the spread of toxic protein species in the diseased brain.
