Ping Wei is an assistant investigator in Shanghai Diabetes Institute, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Diabetes Mellitus, Shanghai Clinical Center for Diabetes, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Affiliated Sixth People’s Hospital, Shanghai, China. She works on energy metabolism and metabolic diseases using Drosophila and mouse models.
She received her M.D. from China Medical University, China, and Ph.D. from Kyushu University, Japan, where she studied the regulatory mechanism of ADRP (adipose differentiation-related protein) expression and identified an important cis-acting element regulating ADRP gene expression in macrophages. She did postdoctoral training in University of Massachusetts Medical School, USA, where she worked on transcriptional control of energy metabolism and metabolic diseases and identified an ubiquitin E3 ligase RNF34 as a critical regulator of PGC-1 a function in brown fat.
