Biography

Reto Asmis is a Professor of Internal Medicine and the Associate Director for Education at the Center for Precision Medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. He received his PhD in Biochemistry for the University of Fribourg in Fribourg, Switzerland, and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California at San Diego and the University of Berne in Switzerland. He is a former Senior Associate Dean at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the founder and President of Exprimon, a neutraceutical company based in San Antonio, Texas.

His research focuses on three main areas 1) redox signaling in monocyte and macrophages, 2) phytochemical-based strategies for the prevention and treatment of obesity, atherosclerosis and diabetic complications, and 3) development of novel macrophage-targeting imaging agents. He has over 25 years of experience in the field of macrophage biology and redox biochemistry, and more recently focused my research efforts on the role of macrophages in metabolic disorders and vascular diseases.
