Christophe D. Proulx

Christophe Proulx is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. He received his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the Université de Sherbrooke, Canada.

Dr. Proulx developed a strong interest on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying major depression. During his postdoc in the laboratory of Dr. Roberto Malinow at University of California, San Diego, he characterized synaptic transmission at the lateral habenula in animal models of depression.

In 2016, he was recruited as faculty at the CERVO brain research Center, Université Laval. His research program studies the neural mechanisms of emotions underlying normal behavioral responses, but also the defects in these mechanisms that can lead to mood disorders such as depression. Dr. Proulx's team uses advanced techniques (optical fiber photometry, electrophysiology measurements, optogenetics) that allow them to measure and to manipulate neuronal activity, in real time in free moving animals.
