Biography

Dr. rer. medic. Friederike B. Haslbeck, Ph.D., NICU-MT, SFMT, DGMT is a post-doc research fellow and clinical music therapist at the Department of Neonatology, University Hospital Zurich and University of Zurich in Zurich, Switzerland. She is a trained musician (violin and piano), and a clinical music therapist specialized in neonatal music therapy. She received her doctoral degree with summa cum laude from the University Witten-Herdecke, Department of Medicine in Witten, Germany.

During her training, she developed a family-integrated music therapy approach in neonatal care: Creative Music Therapy with preterm infants and their parents (CMT). She implemented this approach at various German and Swiss neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) and developed and runs the certified NICU training program in CMT worldwide. She developed a keen focus on researching music in neonatal care. As a post-doctoral fellow, she studies the effect of CMT on the neurodevelopment in preterm infants and psychosocial adaption in parents with a randomized controlled clinical trial as well as the effect of various musical and vocal interventions to improve neurodevelopment outcomes for preterm infants with a Cochrane review.

She lectures at the University of the Arts, Department of Music, Zurich, and at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Department of Health in Zurich, Switzerland. She is holding numerous publications on neonatal music therapy. Dr. Friederike Haslbeck received a doctoral fellowship from the Ev. Studienwerk Villigst, e.V.; Germany, and the World Federation of Music Therapy doctoral students award.
