Łukasz Makowski

Łukasz Makowski is an Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology at Faculty of Biotechnology, University of Wroclaw, Poland. He received his Master's degree from the University of Wroclaw, and a Ph.D. with honors from the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Makowski is interested in the chromosome replication of bacteria. During his Master's project, he studied the regulator of the initiation of chromosome replication in Helicobacter pylori. After graduation, he moved to the Hirszfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy, Polish Academy of Sciences, and start Ph.D. studies. Dr. Makowski started research on chromosome replication of predatory bacteria, Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus. He reports the first characterization of key elements of initiation of chromosomal replication – DnaA protein and oriC region from this predatory bacterium and performed a real-time investigation into the subcellular localization of the replisomes in a single cell of B. bacteriovorus. As a post-doctoral fellow (2019 to present) in Jolanta Zakrzewska-Czerwińska's lab at the Department of Molecular Microbiology, University of Wroclaw, Poland, he continues research on replication and chromosome segregation in B. bacteriovorus.
