The lead (Pb) hazard is not only in connection with the concentration of Pb but also closely related to the ambience which affects its mobility and the synergistic toxicity with other ions. However, most of the existent methods focus highly on detecting Pb concentration accurately but can seldom reflect the pollution-related information in actual samples, thereby limiting their pragmatic applications. In this work, a DNA-supramolecule logic platform was established, which can be configurated to implement three information process functions and act as three unique intelligent sensors of Pb. The demultiplexer that can split signal flow was used to determine Pb in different pH conditions; the multiplexer that can alternate signal channels was applied to detect Pb or Ag selectively; and the decoder that can extract information was utilized to test Pb and the coexisted Ni simultaneously. All three intelligent sensors based on the logic prototypes present practicable sensitivities and specificities. Considering its flexibility, scalability, and reconfigurability, we believe the logic platform may provide new solutions to process sophisticated information and implement intelligent analysis in environmental monitoring, biochemical detecting, and medical diagnosis.

Intelligent Sensors of Lead Based on a Reconfigurable DNA-Supramolecule Logic Platform.

A practical and efficient method for selective intramolecular radical trifluoromethylacylation and -arylation of alkenes with inexpensive CFSONa and KSO in aqueous media has been developed, respectively, affording the highly chemoselective synthesis of CF-functionalized chroman-4-ones and chromanes in satisfactory yields. Control experiments and DFT calculations indicate that the CFSONa/KSO system is capable of trifluoromethylating the substrate of alkenes without a transition metal catalyst and the oxidation of CFSONa to ·CF by KSO is involved in the rate-determining step.

KSO-Mediated Selective Trifluoromethylacylation and Trifluoromethylarylation of Alkenes under Transition-Metal-Free Conditions: Synthetic Scope and Mechanistic Studies.

Molecular computation is increasingly attractive as a tool for medical and biological research because of its programmability and controllability. Herein, a novel visibly observable supramolecular system that can execute multi-level logic functions on a uniform platform was constructed. By employing some programming factors, we succeeded in not only constructing a whole set of contrary logic pairs, but also building up a logic network that can implement advanced functions. Further, the platform is applied to sense thiols in specific environments. The developed method can efficiently filter signals of thiols in intracellular conditions and measure cysteine levels quantitatively in serum conditions. The visual readout makes the method particularly suitable for point-of-care testing. The supramolecule-based platform illustrates not only an incremental advance for the construction of programmable molecular logic systems, but also viable applications in intelligent thiol analysis.

A Visibly Observable, Programmable Supramolecular Logic Platform and Its Application in Smart Thiols Sensing.

The first experimental evidence for the palladium-catalyzed secondary bond activation of allylic alcohols in a Tsuji-Trost reaction was provided by NMR methods, such as variable-temperature H NMR, diffusion-ordered spectroscopy (DOSY), Job's method, H NMR titration, and nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectroscopy (NOESY). The experimental results revealed that the substrate self-assisted activation of allylic alcohols is probably performed via a 1:1 binding six-membered-ring complex, which are formed by the formation of the secondary bonds, the hydrogen bond and P···O noncovalent bond between allylic alcohol and phosphonium ylide.

Substrate Self-Assisted Secondary Bond Activation of Allylic Alcohol in a Tsuji-Trost Reaction Revealed by NMR Methods.

Visible light-mediated cascade remote oxyfluoroalkylation of alkenes under mild conditions is developed for the first time. The key point of this transformation is the incorporation of alkene fluoroalkylation-initiated remote benzyl C-H bond activation via a 1,5-H shift in a highly controlled site-selective manner and Kornblum reaction with dimethyl sulfoxide as the oxidant. With this method, a broad array of fluoroalkyl groups were introduced into a double bond to produce 1,6-fluoroalkylated ketones at room temperature.

Photoredox-Catalyzed Remote Difunctionalizations of Alkenes To Synthesize Fluoroalkyl Ketones with Dimethyl Sulfoxide as the Oxidant.

Two novel, thermally stable explosives, 2-fluoro-1,3-diamino-4,6-dinitrobenzene (ZXC-7) and 2-fluoro-1,3,5-triamino-4,6-dinitrobenzene (ZXC-8), are reported. These two compounds can be prepared by means of simple synthetic methods and they show outstanding properties (detonation velocity, detonation pressure, sensitivity toward mechanical stimuli, and temperature of decomposition). Their structures are very similar to that of 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB). They were isolated and characterized by means of mass spectrometry and multinuclear ( H,  C) NMR spectroscopy. The structure of ZXC-7 in the crystalline state was determined by low-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction. From the calculated standard molar enthalpy of formation (CBS-4 M) and the densities (which were determined by a gas pycnometer), the Chapman-Jouguet detonation properties were predicted by using the EXPLO5 V6.01 thermochemical computer code. The sensitivities of ZXC-7 and ZXC-8 towards impact and friction were determined.

A substrate self-assisted activation of allylic alcohols by tautomerizable heteroarenes via hydrogen bonding was disclosed by various NMR techniques, including variable-temperature H NMR, Job plot, and H NMR titration. Guided by these finding, a much milder allylic substitution of tautomerizable heteroarenes with allylic alcohols was developed, affording the target products in high yields.

Insights into Substrate Self-Assisted Activation of Allylic Alcohols Guiding to Mild Allylic Substitution of Tautomerizable Heteroarenes.

In organic solar cells (OSCs), cathode interfacial materials are generally designed with highly polar groups to increase the capability of lowering the work function of cathode. However, the strong polar group could result in a high surface energy and poor physical contact at the active layer surface, posing a challenge for interlayer engineering to address the trade-off between device stability and efficiency. Herein, we report a hydrogen-bonding interfacial material, aliphatic amine-functionalized perylene-diimide (PDINN), which simultaneously down-shifts the work function of the air stable cathodes (silver and copper), and maintains good interfacial contact with the active layer. The OSCs based on PDINN engineered silver-cathode demonstrate a high power conversion efficiency of 17.23% (certified value 16.77% by NREL) and high stability. Our results indicate that PDINN is an effective cathode interfacial material and interlayer engineering via suitable intermolecular interactions is a feasible approach to improve device performance of OSCs.
