Research Area
Simon Mezgec is a highly cited researcher in the food image recognition field. Since 2011, he has been working on computer vision problems such as traffic sign detection and medical image processing. Since 2014, he has focused on food and beverage image recognition, making use of deep learning approaches. In 2019, he was selected as a finalist for the DSM Bright Science Award. In 2020, he won second place in the Food Recognition Challenge, the only international food image recognition competition.
