Vanessa Escolano Maso

Lee L Mason, PhD, BCBA-D, is an Associate Professor of Special Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he serves as the founding director of the UTSA Autism Research Center. Lee has been working as an applied behavior analyst since he received his special education teaching certificate from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2004 and began teaching in rural East Texas public schools. He received his PhD in Education from Utah State University, where his dissertation - a behavioral phenomenological investigation of virtual learning environments - was awarded "Outstanding Paper" by the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education.

Prof. Mason's current research focuses on assessing verbal response populations and transferring stimulus control across operants. He promotes contingency-shaping of undergraduate and graduate special education teachers through experiential learning, while providing free behavior-analytic intervention to children with autism from the south Texas community. Lee has received more than $2 million of funding to research contingency-shaped disorders of verbal behavior at the Autism Research Center, which in 2018 was recognized with an "Exemplary Program Award" by the American Council on Rural Special Education.
