Erin M. Boisvert

Erin Michelle Boisvert received her undergraduate with honors degree from Southern Connecticut State Univerisy, New Haven, CT, a Ph.D. in biomedical science from the University of Connecticut, Farmington, CT, and did her postdoctoral training at Yale University.

The majority of her graduate work was focused on determining out how to differentiate human embryonic stem cells into specific types of neurons including the spacial and temporal factors. During her postdoctoral training she moved to generating a 3D brain organoid system based upon her discoveries during graduate school. This system was continuously tweaked to make it more simplistic and cost-effective. She then utilized this system to mimic human neonatal hypoxic injury (NHI) and found that minocycline has the unique ability to mitigate some of the harmful effects of NHI. She has also employed this system to evaluate brain tumors and cell migration.
