The objective of this in vitro study was to investigate the micro shear bond strength (µSBS) of mineral trioxide aggregate to four different restorative materials. Sixty mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) samples were randomly assigned into four experimental groups based on the restorative materials used: nanohybrid resin composite as a control, giomer, alkasite and ormocer. µSBS samples were prepared for each group ( = 15). These samples were then submitted to a µSBS test (crosshead speed, 0.5 mm/min). The resulting data were statistically analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Levene, and Bonferroni tests (α = 0.05). The bond strength of the alkasite group was statistically significantly higher than all the tested groups (<0.05), while there were no significant differences between the nanohybrid resin composite, giomer, or ormocer groups ( > 0.05). Within the limitations of this study, alkasite restorative material could be a promising material when placed over MTA.

This study aimed to compare the temperature changes occurring on the root surfaces after the removal of root canal filling with two different root canal sealers by two different reciprocating files. Sixty extracted teeth with a single root and canal were used in this study. After chemomechanical preparation, the root canals in the experimental groups were filled with gutta-percha and AH Plus or CeraSeal, while those of the control groups were filled with gutta-percha only. Resiproc or WaveOne Gold were used for the removal of the root canal filling. Temperature changes in the middle and apical third of the root surface were recorded by a thermal camera at different time intervals. Among the groups using the same sealer, the temperature rise observed on the root surface at the end of 90 s in the Resiproc groups was found to be significantly higher than that of the WaveOne Gold groups.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of various disinfection protocols on the cutting efficiency and chemical composition of ProTaper, Twisted File, Twisted File Adaptive, and Hedström files. Four experimental groups (n = 10) were presoaked in either enzymatic solution or 1% sodium hypochlorite for 30 min, followed by either 5 or 15 min of ultrasonic cleaning and then autoclaved. Resin-simulated canals with a single curvature of 38-40° were prepared by each instrument system. Cutting efficiency of each instrument was analyzed by subtracting the final weight from the initial weight of the resin blocks. Chemical compositions were studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy-dispersive spectrometry. The cutting efficiency of Hedström, ProTaper, and Twisted File instruments decreased compared to their control groups (p < 0.05) whereas it did not change for Twisted File Adaptive. More corrosion was detected with longer ultrasonication time. No difference was observed regarding the pre-soaking media. Disinfection protocols exerted a significant overall effect on the performance of Hedström, ProTaper, and Twisted File instruments. Corrosion, microcracks, and crevices were evident on all tested instruments after disinfection protocols applied. All disinfection protocols, regardless of the pre-soaking media used or the ultrasonic cleaning time applied, have some effect on the cutting efficiency and the surface characteristics of the files.

This survey aims to assess the understanding, viewpoints, and methods employed by undergraduate dental students in the fourth and fifth grades regarding broken endodontic instruments in root canal procedures.

Knowledge, awareness, and approaches of dentistry students about separated instruments in root canals: A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND Endo-perio lesions are a great challenge for dentists. The aim of this study was to evaluate the treatment approach of dental practitioners to endo-perio lesions by considering the current endo-perio classification. MATERIAL AND METHODS An online survey was prepared, consisting of questions about the treatment approach to 3 simulated cases with endo-perio lesions, shown on periapical radiography. Details of the patient's age, presence of systemic disease, smoking, and how the single- or multi-rooted tooth would affect the treatment plan were also included in the simulated cases presented in the survey. The survey was sent to 1500 dentists via e-mail, WhatsApp, and social media platforms. The chi-square test was used for comparison of data. Significance was evaluated at P<0.05. RESULTS In total, 338 dentists participated in the survey, including general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists. Fifty-three percent of participants stated that they would perform root canal treatment and initial periodontal treatment simultaneously, when both treatments were required. In cases classified as grade 3, most general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists answered that they would prescribe systemic antibiotics if there was diffuse extra-oral swelling (P<0.05). Moreover, in grade 3 cases, more general dentists chose the option "extraction" as the best choice, compared with endodontists and periodontists, who did not choose extraction as often (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS According to the results of this study, general dentists, endodontists, and periodontists generally follow different approaches to endo-perio lesions. A consensus is needed on this issue to develop a successful multidisciplinary approach to endo-perio lesions.
