Hypothermia therapy is a promising therapeutic strategy for traumatic brain injury (TBI); however, some trials have shown that hypothermia therapy has a negative effect on patients with TBI. The treatment of hypothermia in children with TBI remains controversial. We conducted a search of six online databases to validate the literature on comparing hypothermia with normal therapy for children with TBI. Eight randomized controlled trials (514 patients) were included. The meta-analysis indicated that hypothermia therapy may increase the Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) scores. However, in terms of improving the rate of complications, intracranial pressure (ICP), mortality, cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), and length of stay both in hospital as well as pediatric ICU, the difference was not statistically significant. Hypothermia therapy may have clinical advantages in improving the GOS scores in children with TBI compared with normothermic therapy, but hypothermia therapy may have no benefit in improving the incidence of complications, ICP, mortality, CPP, and length of stay both in pediatric ICU as well as hospital. The decision to implement hypothermia therapy for children with TBI depends on the advantages and disadvantages from many aspects and these must be considered comprehensively.

Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in individuals under the age of 45, which places a heavy disease burden on patients and society. However, the prevalence of long-term symptoms in individuals who suffered from mild traumatic brain injury and how psychosocial factors affect their long-term symptoms remain unclear.

Investigation of long-term symptoms and influencing factors in patients with mild traumatic brain injury: A cross-sectional study.

With the changing lifestyle and spectrum of diseases among Chinese people, the life-cycle approach to health has been given national strategic importance. Over the past decade, global nursing researchers have gradually started to pay more attention to the research related to precision nursing at different stages of the life cycle. Researchers have applied multi-omics to explore the pathogenesis and novel biomarkers of relevant symptoms in tumor patients or patients with chronic diseases in order to manage symptoms with better precision. However, systematic theories of precision nursing of life-cycle health and disease have not yet been developed, and the research field and its implications still need to be continuously expanded and innovated. In the nursing discipline, the advantages of interdisciplinary integration should be given full play and the precise and effective resolution of life-cycle health problems should be taken as its goal. Through accurately defining key quantitative objective indicators of nursing care, the nursing discipline will be able to achieve early identification of life-cycle health problems, clarify the occurrence and patterns of change in life-cycle health problems, and gain a better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms. Precise and effective nursing-related technologies and products of non-medication and non-surgery nature should be developed to achieve better precision in nursing interventions, thereby effectively promoting recovery from diseases and improving the overall health of the people.

[Status Quo and Prospects of Research on Precision Nursing of Life-Cycle Health and Disease].

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the most serious types of trauma and imposes a heavy social and economic burden on healthcare systems worldwide. The development of emerging biotechnologies is uncovering the relationship between TBI and gut flora, and gut flora as a potential intervention target is of increasing interest to researchers. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of research employing bibliometric methodologies to scrutinize the interrelation between these two. Therefore, this study visualized the relationship between TBI and gut flora based on bibliometric methods to reveal research trends and hotspots in the field. The ultimate objective is to catalyze progress in the preclinical and clinical evolution of strategies for treating and managing TBI.

Emerging trends and focus of research on the relationship between traumatic brain injury and gut microbiota: a visualized study.

Since cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway was discovered in 2013, great progress has been made to elucidate the origin, function, and regulating mechanism of cGAS-STING signaling pathway in the past decade. Meanwhile, the triggering and transduction mechanisms have been continuously illuminated. cGAS-STING plays a key role in human diseases, particularly DNA-triggered inflammatory diseases, making it a potentially effective therapeutic target for inflammation-related diseases. Here, we aim to summarize the ancient origin of the cGAS-STING defense mechanism, as well as the triggers, transduction, and regulating mechanisms of the cGAS-STING. We will also focus on the important roles of cGAS-STING signal under pathological conditions, such as infections, cancers, autoimmune diseases, neurological diseases, and visceral inflammations, and review the progress in drug development targeting cGAS-STING signaling pathway. The main directions and potential obstacles in the regulating mechanism research and therapeutic drug development of the cGAS-STING signaling pathway for inflammatory diseases and cancers will be discussed. These research advancements expand our understanding of cGAS-STING, provide a theoretical basis for further exploration of the roles of cGAS-STING in diseases, and open up new strategies for targeting cGAS-STING as a promising therapeutic intervention in multiple diseases.

cGAS-STING, an important signaling pathway in diseases and their therapy.

Accumulating evidence has reported that the intestinal microbiota could play important roles in the occurrence and progression of severe trauma. However, the hypothesized potential targeted intestinal microbiota to mediate and regulate the levels of inflammatory cytokines and promote rapid recovery of body after severe trauma remains unclear. This study was aimed to explore the changes and correlation of intestinal microbiota and inflammatory cytokines in rats with severe crush and fracture trauma. The controlled laboratory study design was used, and a crush and fracture severe trauma rat model was established. 16S rRNA high-throughput gene sequencing and ELISA were used to analyze the changes in intestinal microbiota and inflammatory cytokines within one week after trauma. The correlation between intestinal microbiota and inflammatory cytokines was also analyzed. Loss of overall diversity and expansion of intestinal microbiota in the rats due to severe trauma was observed. Specifically, there was a significant increase in the abundance of Muribaculaceae [LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis)-value = 4.814, P = 0.014] after severe trauma, while Prevotella (LDA-value = 5.235, P = 0.020) and Alloprevotella (LDA-value = 4.443, P = 0.015) were slightly lower in the trauma group than in the control group. The levels of inflammatory cytokines (IL-1α, IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α) in the trauma group decreased from the first day to the third day and continued to increase until one week after the trauma. Prevotellaceae_UCG_001 was correlated with TNF-a (R = 0.411, P = 0.033); Lactobacillus was negatively correlated with IL-6 (R = - 0.434, P = 0.024) and IL-1α (R = - 0.419, P = 0.030) and positively correlated with IL-8 (R = 0.391, P = 0.045); and Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group (R = - 0.559, P = 0.027) and Muribaculaceae (R = - 0.568, P = 0.024) were negatively correlated with IL-8. Severe trauma shows stress-like activities by negatively modulating intestinal microbiota and affecting certain inflammatory cytokines contributing to host health, which implies that the regulation of potentially targeted intestinal microbiota, and further mediating and maintaining the homeostasis of inflammatory cytokines, is expected to promote the accelerating recovery of the body after severe trauma.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has emerged as a promising tool for cognitive rehabilitation in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. These patients often endure significant cognitive impairments, which are associated with decreased quality of life and increased disease burden. Traditional treatments are limited in improving cognitive functions, making VR-based interventions an area of growing interest.
