Taking the nine common microbial strains in liquor-making process as test objects, this paper studied the characteristics of phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA), a characteristic component of the strains cell membrane, and the relationships between the detected amount of PLFA and the biomass of the strains. There existed significant differences in the PLFA fingerprints between test bacteria, actinomycetes, molds, and yeasts, and the PLFA fingerprint of each strain could be used as the basis to distinguish species and genus. Within a certain range of the strains biomass, the detected amount of total PLFA or 16:0 was linearly correlated with the biomass. After adding different biomass Gram positive (G+) bacteria, Gram negative (G-) bacteria, and fungi in fermented grains, a significant difference was observed in the relative amount of PLFA between experimental and control samples. It was suggested that the fingerprint of PLFA could quantitatively or semi-quantitatively characterize the microbial community structure and its dynamic variation in fermented grains. By detecting the PLFA profiles of fermented grains in various liquor industries and by analyzing the microbial community structure in the fermented grains, it was substantiated that PLFA fingerprinting was of general applicability.

In this study, we design the interfacial self-assembly of heparin-mimetic multilayer on poly(ether sulfone) (PES) membrane, which can endow the substrate with excellent cytocompatibility, highly hemocompatibility and enhanced antibacterial properties. The coated 3D sponge-like multilayer was fabricated by surface engineered layer by layer assembly of sulfonic amino polyether sulfone (SNPES) and quaternized chitosan (QC). The cell morphology observation and viability evaluation suggested that the assembled multilayer coating had remarkable cytocompatibility with endothelial cells due to the synergistic promotion of bovine serum albumin adsorption and heparin-mimetic groups; which further indicated that surface endothelialization could be achieved on the heparin-mimetic multilayer. The systematical tests of antithrombotic and blood activation indicated that the heparin-mimetic multilayer-coated membrane owned significantly suppressed adsorption of bovine serum fibrinogen, platelet adhesion and activation, prolonged clotting times, as well as lower activation of blood complement. Furthermore, the antibacterial test suggested the multilayer coated substrates exhibited obvious inhibition capability for both  and . Therefore, we believe that the developed SNPES/QC multilayer on PES membrane show great potential as a multifunctional coating toward versatile biomedical applications due to the integrated and highly effective antithrombotic, endothelialization, and antibacterial properties.

Dielectric capacitors are employed extensively due to their exceptional performance, including a rapid charge-discharge speed and superior power density. However, their practical implementation is hindered by constraints in energy-storage density (ESD), efficiency (ESE), and thermal stability. To achieve domain engineering and improved relaxor behavior in 0.67BiFeO-0.33BaTiO-based Pb-free ceramics, the concerns have been addressed here by employing a synergistic high-entropy strategy involving the design of the composition of Sr(MgZnTaNb)O with B-site multielement coexistence and high configuration entropy. Remarkably, in (0.67)BiFeO-0.33BaTiO-Sr(MgZnTaNb)O ceramics with  = 0.08, a good ESE (η) of 75% and a recoverable ESD () of 2.4 J/cm at 190 kV/cm were attained together with an ultrahigh hardness of ∼7.2 GPa. The high-entropy strategy, which is tailored by an increase in configuration entropy, can be attributed to the superior mechanical and ES properties. It also explains the enhanced random field and relaxation behavior, the structural coexistence of ferroelectric rhombohedral (3) and nonpolar pseudocubic () symmetries, the decreased domain size, and evenly distributed polar nanoregions (PNRs). Moreover, improved thermal stability and outstanding frequency stability are also obtained. By boosting the configuration entropy, BiFeO-BaTiO materials dramatically improved their complete energy storage performance. This suggests that designing high-performance dielectrics with high entropy can be a convenient yet effective technique, leading to the development of advanced capacitors.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma poses a formidable treatment challenge owing to its complex anatomy and essential functions of the organs involved. Neoadjuvant immunotherapies, particularly PD-1 inhibitors, have shown promise in improving patient outcomes. Nevertheless, the ability to accurately predict which patients will benefit from neoadjuvant immunotherapy continues to be a significant hurdle.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has emerged as a crucial analytical tool in the field of oncology, particularly presenting significant challenges for the diagnosis and treatment of head and neck cancer. This Review provides an overview of the current status and prospects of SERS applications, highlighting their profound impact on molecular biology-level diagnosis, tissue-level identification, HNC therapeutic monitoring, and integration with emerging technologies. The application of SERS for single-molecule assays such as epidermal growth factor receptors and PD-1/PD-L1, gene expression analysis, and tumor microenvironment characterization is also explored. This Review showcases the innovative applications of SERS in liquid biopsies such as high-throughput lateral flow analysis for ctDNA quantification and salivary diagnostics, which can offer rapid and highly sensitive assays suitable for immediate detection. At the tissue level, SERS enables cancer cell visualization and intraoperative tumor margin identification, enhancing surgical precision and decision-making. The role of SERS in radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy is examined along with its use in real-time pharmacokinetic studies to monitor treatment response. Furthermore, this Review delves into the synergistic relationship between SERS and artificial intelligence, encompassing machine learning and deep learning algorithms, marking the dawn of a new era in precision oncology. The integration of SERS with genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and single-cell omics at the multiomics level will revolutionize our comprehension and management of HNC. This Review offers an overview of the transformative impacts of SERS and examines future directions as well as challenges in this dynamic research field.

Application of Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy in Head and Neck Cancer Diagnosis.

Nicotiana tabacum is an allotetraploid hybrid of Nicotiana sylvestris and Nicotiana tomentosiformis and a model organism in genetics. However, features of subgenome evolution, expression coordination, genetic diversity and complex traits regulation of N. tabacum remain unresolved. Here we present chromosome-scale assemblies for all three species, and genotype and phenotypic data for 5,196 N. tabacum germplasms. Chromosome rearrangements and epigenetic modifications are associated with genome evolution and expression coordination following polyploidization. Two subgenomes and genes biased toward one subgenome contributed unevenly to complex trait variation. Using 178 marker-trait associations, a reference genotype-to-phenotype map was built for 39 morphological, developmental and disease resistance traits, and a novel gene regulating leaf width was validated. Signatures of positive and polygenic selection during the process of selective breeding were detected. Our study provides insights into genome evolution, complex traits regulation in allotetraploid N. tabacum and the use of GeneBank-scale resources for advancing genetic and genomic research.

Hepatoblastoma (HB), the most common pediatric liver malignancy, is characterized by aggressive growth and metastasis driven by complex angiogenic mechanisms. This review elucidates the pivotal role of angiogenesis in HB progression, emphasizing metabolic reprogramming, tumor microenvironment (TME) dynamics, and oncogenic signalling pathways. The Warburg effect in HB cells fosters a hypoxic microenvironment, stabilizing hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and upregulating vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which synergistically enhances angiogenesis. Key pathways such as the Wnt/β-catenin, VEGF, PI3K/AKT, and JAK2/STAT3 pathways are central to endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and vascular maturation, whereas interactions with tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and pericytes further remodel the TME to support neovascularization. Long noncoding RNAs and glycolytic enzymes have emerged as critical regulators of angiogenesis, linking metabolic activity with vascular expansion. Anti-angiogenic therapies, including VEGF inhibitors and metabolic pathway-targeting agents, show preclinical promise but face challenges such as resistance and off-target effects. Future directions advocate for dual-target strategies, spatial multiomics technologies to map metabolic-angiogenic crosstalk, and personalized approaches leveraging biomarkers for risk stratification. This synthesis underscores the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to translate mechanistic insights into durable therapies, ultimately improving outcomes for HB patients.
