Two-dimensional atomic crystals are extensively studied in recent years due to their exciting physics and device applications. However, a molecular counterpart, with scalable processability and competitive device performance, is still challenging. Here, we demonstrate that high-quality few-layer dioctylbenzothienobenzothiophene molecular crystals can be grown on graphene or boron nitride substrate via van der Waals epitaxy, with precisely controlled thickness down to monolayer, large-area single crystal, low process temperature and patterning capability. The crystalline layers are atomically smooth and effectively decoupled from the substrate due to weak van der Waals interactions, affording a pristine interface for high-performance organic transistors. As a result, monolayer dioctylbenzothienobenzothiophene molecular crystal field-effect transistors on boron nitride show record-high carrier mobility up to 10 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1) and aggressively scaled saturation voltage ~1 V. Our work unveils an exciting new class of two-dimensional molecular materials for electronic and optoelectronic applications.

Two-dimensional quasi-freestanding molecular crystals for high-performance organic field-effect transistors.

Precise assembly of semiconductor heterojunctions is the key to realize many optoelectronic devices. By exploiting the strong and tunable van der Waals (vdW) forces between graphene and organic small molecules, we demonstrate layer-by-layer epitaxy of ultrathin organic semiconductors and heterostructures with unprecedented precision with well-defined number of layers and self-limited characteristics. We further demonstrate organic p-n heterojunctions with molecularly flat interface, which exhibit excellent rectifying behavior and photovoltaic responses. The self-limited organic molecular beam epitaxy (SLOMBE) is generically applicable for many layered small-molecule semiconductors and may lead to advanced organic optoelectronic devices beyond bulk heterojunctions.

Precise, Self-Limited Epitaxy of Ultrathin Organic Semiconductors and Heterojunctions Tailored by van der Waals Interactions.

Li-rich layered oxides are recognized as promising candidates for next-generation Li-ion batteries owing to the high capacity of >250 mAh g, but the severe voltage fade has prevented their commercialization. It is widely known that high-voltage charge processes result in layered-to-spinel structural evolution and voltage fade in Li-rich layered oxides. This work emphasizes that limiting the low-voltage reduction can maintain the structure and voltage stability of Li-rich layered oxides after the 4.6 V high-voltage charge processes. A strategy of limiting the low-voltage (<2.8 V) reduction by cycling at 4.6-2.8 V was performed in traditional LiNiMnCoO and high-Ni LiNiMnCoO. After 300 cycles, traditional LiNiMnCoO and high-Ni LiNiMnCoO cycling at 4.6-2 V showed midpoint discharge voltages of 2.83 V and 2.97 V with high voltage fade rates of 2.25 mV/cycle and 2.24 mV/cycle, respectively. While the two materials cycling at 4.6-2.8 V can maintain discharge midpoint voltages of 3.34 V and 3.49 V, with low voltage decay rates of 0.692 mV/cycle and 0.632 mV/cycle, respectively. To better understand the voltage performance, their electric structures were calculated by density functional theory. Physical characterizations were also used to analyze their differences in structural evolution. The results suggested that limiting low-voltage reduction in Li-rich layered oxides is highly necessary for maintaining their structure and voltage stability.

Restriction of voltage decay by limiting low-voltage reduction in Li-rich oxide materials.

The sudden COVID-19 pandemic poses a fresh and tough challenge to bike sharing systems (BSS). With this epidemic as a shock event, this paper aspires to shed light on the phenomenon of changing demand and usage regularity in New York City's BSS under the epidemic environment, spanning a period of 18 months.

A long-term perspective on the COVID-19: The bike sharing system resilience under the epidemic environment.

Recent decades have witnessed an increasing academic interest in mobile-assisted vocabulary learning. To explore the possible influencing factors on learning outcomes, this study aimed at examining the effects of self-regulation and peer scaffolding on mobile-assisted vocabulary learning among undergraduate students using Shanbay App beyond the classroom. To this end, altogether 71 intermediate-level English learners aged 17-19 years were chosen as participants, with 37 in the experimental group (with peer scaffolding) and 34 in the control group (without peer scaffolding). Data were collected through the Shanbay App regarding participants' vocabulary learning performance, a self-regulation questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The results of factorial ANOVA revealed that peer scaffolding significantly affected mobile vocabulary learning in terms of the days spent in vocabulary learning and the sum of words participants have learned; a main effect of self-regulation and an interaction effect of self-regulation and peer scaffolding were also observed on the sum of learned words. The research is innovative in providing a motivational peer scaffolding framework in mobile vocabulary learning settings, and may provide pedagogical implications for vocabulary teaching in EFL context in higher education.

Mobile-assisted vocabulary learning through the Shanbay App outside the classroom: Effects of self-regulation and peer scaffolding.

The risky driving behavior of hazmat truck drivers is a crucial factor in many severe traffic accidents. In-vehicle Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS), integrating vehicle active safety and driver assistance technology, has been installed into hazmat trucks aiming to reduce driving risks during emergencies. This paper presents an enhanced dynamic Forward Collision Warning (FCW) model tailored for hazmat truck drivers with different driving characteristics and risk levels. Our objective is to determine the optimal moment to alert drivers during risky situations. The novelty of our approach lies in analyzing the driver's response mechanism to the warning by considering their characteristics and real-time driving risk levels. We employ a multi-objective optimization method that integrates real-time driving risk, driver acceptance, and driving comfort to calculate the optimal warning time. Our findings indicate that the appropriate warning time is similar for all drivers under high-level risks, while significant differentiation exists for different driver categories under mid-level and low-level risks. Additionally, aggressive drivers tend to follow leading vehicles closely and exhibit lower deceleration intentions when faced with dangers compared to normal and cautious drivers. Our research outcomes enable the development of user profiles for hazmat truck drivers based on extensive historical driving records, facilitating the analysis of driver response differences to FCWs. This enhances driving safety and improves driver trust in ADAS systems.

Adaptive forward collision warning system for hazmat truck drivers: Considering differential driving behavior and risk levels.

High-capacity O3-type layered sodium oxides are considered one of the most promising cathode materials for the next generation of Na-ion batteries (NIBs). However, these cathodes usually suffer from low high-rate capacity and poor cycling stability due to structure deformation, native air sensitivity, and interfacial side reactions. Herein, a multi-site substituted strategy is employed to enhance the stability of O3-type NaNi Mn O . Simulations indicate that the Ti substitution decreases the charge density of Ni ions and improves the antioxidative capability of the material. In addition, the synergistic effect of K and Ti significantly reduces the formation energy of Na vacancy and delivers an ultra-low lattice strain during the repeated Na extraction/insertion. In situ characterizations verify that the complicated phase transformation is mitigated during the charge/discharge process, resulting in greatly improved structure stability. The co-substituted cathode delivers a high-rate capacity of 97 mAh g at 5 C and excellent capacity retention of 81% after 400 cycles at 0.5 C. The full cell paired with commercial hard carbon anode also exhibits high capacity and long cycling life. This dual-ion substitution strategy will provide a universal approach for the new rational design of high-capacity cathode materials for NIBs.

Stabilized O3-Type Layered Sodium Oxides with Enhanced Rate Performance and Cycling Stability by Dual-Site Ti /K Substitution.

The progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain is the hallmark of Parkinson's disease (PD). A newly emerging form of lytic cell death, ferroptosis, has been implicated in PD. However, it remains unclear in terms of PD-associated ferroptosis underlying causative genes and effective therapeutic approaches. This research explored the underlying mechanism of ferroptosis-related genes in PD. Here, Firstly, we found NOX1 associated with ferroptosis differently in PD patients by bioinformatics analysis. In vitro and in vivo models of PD were constructed to explore the underlying mechanism. qPCR, Western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, Ferro orange, and BODIPY C11 were utilized to analyze the levels of ferroptosis. Transcriptomics sequencing was to investigate the downstream pathway and the analysis of immunoprecipitation to validate the upstream factor. In conclusion, NOX1 upregulation and activation of ferroptosis-related neurodegeneration, therefore, might be useful as a clinical therapeutic agent.

Accumulated functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography evidence indicate that numerosity is first processed in the occipito-parietal cortex. fMRI evidence also indicates right-lateralized processing of numerosity, but there is no consistent evidence from event-related potential (ERP) studies. This study investigated the ERP of numerosity processing in the left, right, and bilateral visual fields. The single-trial ERP-behavioral correlation was applied to show how the ERP was associated with behavioral responses. The results showed a significant early behavioral-ERP correlation on the right N1 component when stimuli were presented in the left visual field rather than in the right visual field. The behavioral ERP correlation was termed BN1. There was bilateral BN1 based on the reaction time or error rate, but the right BN1 was larger than that the left BN1 when the stimulus was present in the bilateral visual field. Therefore, this study provided a new neural marker for individual differences in processing numerosity and suggested that processing numerosity was supported by the right occipito-parietal cortex.

Extending inflamed-class signature to predict immune checkpoint inhibitor-based combination therapy in hepatocellular carcinoma.

The key pancreatic beta cell transcription factor v-maf musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma oncogene homologue A (MafA) is critical for the maintenance of mature beta cell function and phenotype. The expression levels and/or activities of MafA are reduced when beta cells are chronically exposed to diabetogenic stress, such as hyperglycaemia (i.e. glucotoxicity). Interventional targets and adjuvant therapies to abate MafA loss in beta cells may provide evidence to support the effective treatment of diabetes. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) in the stabilisation of MafA expression and activity in order to maintain functional beta cell mass, with a view to suppressing the development of type 2 diabetes.

Ensuring the reliability and trustworthiness of connected and automated vehicle (CAV) technologies is crucial before their widespread implementation. Instead of focusing solely on the automation levels of individual vehicles, it is essential to consider the autonomous operations of the entire autonomous transportation system (ATS) to achieve automated traffic. However, designing and generating scenarios that unify the diverse properties of CAV testing and establish mutual trust among stakeholders pose significant challenges. Previous studies have predominantly focused on the automation levels of CAVs when characterizing scenarios, neglecting the autonomous level of the entire scenario from an ATS perspective. Moreover, there remains research potential in evaluating whether the testing scenario libraries can be effectively integrated into the CAV testing process. In this paper, we propose a grading framework for traffic scenarios based on autonomous levels in the ATS. We also classify and summarize the traffic scenarios used in CAV safety testing. Through a comprehensive literature review, we identify prevailing issues and patterns in scenario design and provide insights and directions for future research in this field.
