Stroke remains a leading disabling condition, and many survivors have permanent disability despite acute stroke treatment and subsequent standard-of-care rehabilitation therapies. Adjunctive neuromodulation is an emerging frontier in the field of stroke recovery. In this narrative review, we aim to highlight and summarize various neuromodulation techniques currently being investigated to enhance recovery and reduce impairment in patients with stroke.

Cancer and stroke are leading causes of global disability and mortality. With improvements in cancer-associated mortality and advancements in treatment of active malignancy, it is more common to encounter patients with ischemic stroke and active malignancy. Evidence suggests that cancer-associated ischemic stroke is a unique subtype of stroke; however, there is limited guidance when considering diagnostic workup, secondary prevention, rehabilitation, and future directions within this population. In this narrative review, we aim to describe the epidemiology, pathophysiological mechanisms, management, and future directions regarding understanding of cancer-associated ischemic stroke.

Despite international recognition of stroke as a significant health priority, discrepancies persist between the target values for stroke quality measures and the actual values that are achieved in clinical practice, referred to as gaps.
