Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors and the prognosis of patients remains poor. Increasing evidence suggests that nuclear factor of activated T cell (NFAT1) plays an important role in the development and progression of cancers. Herein, we show that NFAT1 was overexpressed in human ESCC, which was significantly associated with advanced tumor stage and lymph node metastasis. Functional studies found that NFAT1 silencing could suppress cell migration and invasion through MMP-3. The data therefore suggest that NFAT1 plays an important adverse role in the development and progression of ESCC, implicating possible application in clinics as a biomarker and a potential new therapeutic target.

NFAT1 promotes cell motility through MMP-3 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

 The ability to distinguish between a normal thymus, thymic hyperplasia, and thymoma should aid in clinical management and decision making for patients with myasthenia gravis (MG). We sought to determine the accuracy of routine radiological examinations in predicting thymic pathology.  We retrospectively analyzed the records of patients with MG who had undergone thymectomy from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. Each patient received at least one initial radiological diagnosis and one histological diagnosis, and the patients were classified into the all-patient, CT, contrast CT, and MRI groups. The sensitivity, accuracy and specificity of each group were calculated for different histological types.  This study included 114 patients. All sensitivity, specificity and accuracy values except for sensitivity to hyperplasia in each group for different histological types were satisfactory. MRI had higher sensitivity (68.4, 95% CI: 43.5-87.4%) to histological hyperplasia than did CT (14.3, 95% CI: 0.4-57.9%) and contrast CT (26.7, 95% CI: 7.8-55.1%). Contrast CT had higher specificity (97.9, 95% CI: 88.9-99.95%) for histological hyperplasia than did MRI (88.5, 95% CI: 69.9-97.6%).  For patients with MG, CT, contrast CT, and MRI examinations can effectively identify thymoma. Additionally, compared with CT or contrast CT, MRI may have a stronger ability to distinguish thymoma and detect hyperplasia.

As a classic problem of distributed scheduling, the distributed flow-shop scheduling problem (DFSP) involves both the job allocation and the operation sequence inside the factory, and it has been proved to be an NP-hard problem. Many intelligent algorithms have been proposed to solve the DFSP. However, the efficiency and quality of the solution cannot meet the production requirements. Therefore, this paper proposes a bi-objective particle swarm optimization with direction search and differential evolution to solve DFSP with the criteria of minimizing makespan and total processing time. The direction search strategy explores the particle swarm in multiple directions of the Pareto front, which enhances the strong convergence ability of the algorithm in different areas of Pareto front and improves the solution speed of the algorithm. The search strategy based on differential evolution is the local search strategy of the algorithm, which can prevent the multiobjective particle swarm optimization from converging prematurely and avoid falling into local optimum, so that a better solution can be found. The combination of these two strategies not only increases the probability of particles moving in a good direction, but also increases the diversity of the particle swarm. Finally, experimental results on benchmark problems show that, compared with traditional multiobjective evolutionary algorithms, the proposed algorithm can accelerate the convergence speed of the algorithm while guaranteeing that the obtained solutions have good distribution performance and diversity.

Multiobjective particle swarm optimization with direction search and differential evolution for distributed flow-shop scheduling problem.

Chiral imidodiphosphates (IDPs) have emerged as strong Brønsted acid catalysts for many enantioselective processes. However, the dynamic transformation between O,O-syn and O,O-anti conformers typically results in low enantioselectivity. Here we demonstrate that topologies of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be exploited to control IDP conformations and local chiral microenvironments for enantioselective catalysis. Two porous Dy-MOFs with different topologies are obtained from an enantiopure 1,1'-biphenol IDP-based tetracarboxylate ligand. While the ligand adopts a 4- or 3-connected (c) binding mode, all IDPs are rigidified to get only a single O,O-syn conformation and display greatly enhanced Brønsted acidity relative to the free IDP. The MOF with the 4-c IDP that has a relatively less compact shape than the 3-c IDP can be an efficient and recyclable heterogeneous Brønsted acid catalysing the challenging asymmetric O,O-acetalization reaction with up to 96 % enantiomeric excess.

Conformational Control of Organocatalyst in Strongly Brønsted-Acidic Metal-Organic Frameworks for Enantioselective Catalysis.

In the current global cooperative production mode, the distributed fuzzy flow-shop scheduling problem (DFFSP) has attracted much attention because it takes the uncertain factors in the actual flow-shop scheduling problem into account. This paper investigates a multi-stage hybrid evolutionary algorithm with sequence difference-based differential evolution (MSHEA-SDDE) for the minimization of fuzzy completion time and fuzzy total flow time. MSHEA-SDDE balances the convergence and distribution performance of the algorithm at different stages. In the first stage, the hybrid sampling strategy makes the population rapidly converge toward the Pareto front (PF) in multiple directions. In the second stage, the sequence difference-based differential evolution (SDDE) is used to speed up the convergence speed to improve the convergence performance. In the last stage, the evolutional direction of SDDE is changed to guide individuals to search the local area of the PF, thereby further improving the convergence and distribution performance. The results of experiments show that the performance of MSHEA-SDDE is superior to the classical comparison algorithms in terms of solving the DFFSP.

Multi-stage hybrid evolutionary algorithm for multiobjective distributed fuzzy flow-shop scheduling problem.

The flexible job shop scheduling problem is important in many research fields such as production management and combinatorial optimization, and it contains sub-problems of machine assignment and operation sequencing. In this paper, we study a many-objective FJSP (MaOFJSP) with multiple time constraints on setup time, transportation time and delivery time, with the objective of minimizing the maximum completion time, the total workload, the workload of critical machine and penalties of earliness/tardiness. Based on the given problem, an improved ant colony optimization is proposed to solve the problem. A distributed coding approach is proposed by the problem features. Three initialization methods are proposed to improve the quality and diversity of the initial solutions. The front end of the algorithm is designed to iteratively update the machine assignment to search for different neighborhoods. Then the improved ant colony optimization is used for local search of the neighborhood. For the searched scheduling set the entropy weight method and non-dominated sorting are used for filtering. Then mutation and closeness operations are proposed to improve the diversity of the solutions. The algorithm was evaluated through experiments based on 28 benchmark instances. The experimental results show that the algorithm can effectively solve the MaOFJSP problem.

Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of PI in patients with pT3-4N0M0 NSCLC.

Influence of pleural invasion on survival in pathologic T3-4N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer: a propensity score matching study based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database.

Though warangalone has shown anticancer properties against breast cancer cells, its colloidal stability and therapeutic index ought to be improved using a potential strategy, especially via protein-based (nano)carriers. In this research, transferrin was used as a plasma protein for the development of the warangalone-transferrin NPs. To investigate the mechanism underlying the formation of this complex, the interaction between warangalone and transferrin, as well as transferrin NPs, was analyzed using spectroscopic methods. The anticancer properties of warangalone and warangalone-transferrin NPs in lung cancer were subsequently evaluated. The findings showed that the hydrodynamic size, PDI, and zeta potential values of transferrin NPs were 122.4 ± 12.38 nm, 0.210, and -23.40 ± 3.28 mV, respectively. The association between warangalone and transferrin NP showed a strong binding strength (log K = 5.44 ± 0.07), while this affinity was reduced for the warangalone and the transferrin protein (log K = 4.88 ± 0.04). Theoretical research indicated that hydrophobic interactions serve as the main driving forces for the interaction of warangalone and transferrin. Cellular assays showed that the warangalone-transferrin NPs significantly affected cell death in lung cancer cells. This research, by offering promising data, could be highly beneficial for advancing warangalone-transferrin NPs as a promising anticancer platform.

As a predominant form of cancer affecting male populations, prostate cancer (PCa) demonstrates notably high incidence rates globally. The significant heterogeneity in tumor microenvironment (TME) composition (including epithelial and diverse cell populations) hinders clear interpretation of gene and biomarker roles in disease advancement and immune response modulation. Through combined analysis of bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data, this investigation evaluates prostate cancer-related genes' clinical relevance and prognostic potential.
