Considering the high demand for air quality, the development of biomass-based air filtration membranes with high air filtration efficiency and good stability is an urgent task. In this work, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), gelatin (GA), and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were mixed and prepared into a membrane through an electrospinning method for air filtration. After a hydrophobic modification, the modified PVA/GA/CNC composite membrane showed excellent filtration efficiency for PM2.5 (97.65%) through the internal three-dimensional structure barrier and the electrostatic capture effect of the CNC with a negative charge, as well as a low-pressure drop (only 50 Pa). In addition, the modified PVA/GA/CNC composite membrane had good mechanical properties (maximum tensile fracture rate of 78.3%) and high stability (air filtration efficiency of above 90% after five wash-filter cycles and a high-temperature treatment at 200 °C). It is worth noting that the whole preparation process is completed without organic solvents, putting forward a new strategy for the construction of green air filtration membranes.

To date, the intelligent assessment of green pepper quality remains an open question, particularly in aspects of color, as impurities closely resemble green peppers. Here, the hyperspectral imaging technology was employed to acquire the original spectral and image information of green and impurities. Subsequently, the original information was processed, and then trained using the super vector machine (SVM), to construct the green pepper impurity detection model. After training, the constructed model achieved 100% accuracy in the training set and 89.7% accuracy in the testing set, which generally met the application requirements. Visualization images of the constructed model in the application of identification green pepper impurity were prepared and optimized, which significantly achieved relatively satisfactory outcomes. Findings of this case study revealed that the presented strategy would provide a theoretical basis for the intelligent processing of green pepper, especially accelerate the development of impurity detection technology.

Detection of green pepper impurities based on hyperspectral imaging technology.

The objective of this study was to study the effect of microwave vacuum puffing (MVP) conditions on dielectric properties of berries. A central composite response surface experiment, with four factors and five levels, was carried out to assess the effect of puffing conditions on the dielectric properties. The microwave volumetric heat, dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor were, accordingly, evaluated based on the dynamic dielectric property index model of berries. As a result, the initial moisture content had significant effects on the dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor of the berry crisps. Specifically, in the early stage of puffing, the dielectric constant decreases with increasing initial moisture content. However, in the later stage of puffing, the dielectric constant first decreases and then increases as the initial moisture content rises. Meanwhile, the dielectric loss factor increases consistently with increasing initial moisture content throughout the puffing process. The MVP conditions exert a complex effect on dielectric properties of berries. Based on these findings, a theoretical for the dynamic processing mode and equipment design for MVP of berries can be provided.
