Microvascular complications in type 2 diabetes (T2DM), including diabatic retinopathy (DR), diabetic kidney disease (DKD), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) are the leading causes of visual loss, end-stage renal disease or amputation, while the current therapies are still unsatisfactory. Chinese medicine (CM) has been widely used for treating diabetic mellitus. However, most of the previous studies focused on the single complication. The role of CM treatment in T2DM patients with 2 or multiple microvascular complications is not clear.

Stationary Treatment Compared with Individualized Chinese Medicine for Type 2 Diabetes Patients with Microvascular Complications: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

As an irreversible, intractable disease with vision loss, glaucoma leads to permanent and progressive damage of visual function. Lowering high intraocular pressure (HIOP) is the first choice for treating glaucoma; however, the control of HIOP is not enough to prevent progressive vison loss. Currently, the therapies to treat glaucoma with controlled IOP (GPCI) are unsatisfactory. Chinese medicine is effective for improving visual function in patients with GPCI. Bujing Yishi tablets (BJYSP) have been the standard preparation for treating GPCI in our hospital for decades. However, no rigorous randomized controlled clinical studies have investigated its effects and safety.

Efficacy and safety of Bujing Yishi tablet for glaucoma with controlled IOP: study protocol for a multi-centre randomized controlled trial.

To scientifically evaluate the intervention effect of Chinese medicine preventive administration(combined use of Huo-xiang Zhengqi Oral Liquid and Jinhao Jiere Granules) on community population in the case of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19), a large cohort, prospective, randomized, and parallel-controlled clinical study was conducted. Total 22 065 subjects were included and randomly divided into 2 groups. The non-intervention group was given health guidance only, while the traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) intervention group was given two coordinated TCM in addition to health guidance. The medical instructions were as follows. Huoxiang Zhengqi Oral Liquid: oral before meals, 10 mL/time, 2 times/day, a course of 5 days. Jinhao Jiere Granules: dissolve in boiling water and take after meals, 8 g/time, 2 times/day, a course of 5 days, followed up for 14 days, respectively. The study found that with the intake of medication, the incidence rate of TCM intervention group was basically maintained at a low and continuous stable level(0.01%-0.02%), while the non-intervention group showed an overall trend of continuous growth(0.02%-0.18%) from 3 to 14 days. No suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case occurred in either group. There were 2 cases of colds in the TCM intervention group and 26 cases in the non-intervention group. The incidence of colds in the TCM intervention group was significantly lower(P&lt;0.05) than that in the non-intervention group. In the population of 16-60 years old, the incidence rate of non-intervention and intervention groups were 0.01% and 0.25%, respectively. The difference of colds incidence between the two groups was statistically significant(P&lt;0.05). In the population older than 60 years old, they were 0.04% and 0.21%, respectively. The incidence of colds in the non-intervention group was higher than that in the intervention group, but not reaching statistical difference. The protection rate of TCM for the whole population was 91.8%, especially for the population of age 16-60(95.0%). It was suggested that TCM intervention(combined use of Huoxiang Zhengqi Oral Liquid and Jinhao Jiere Granules) could effectively protect community residents against respiratory diseases, such as colds, which was worthy of promotion in the community. In addition, in terms of safety, the incidence of adverse events and adverse reactions in the TCM intervention group was relatively low, which was basically consistent with the drug instructions.

[Large- scale prospective clinical study on prophylactic intervention of COVID-19 in community population using Huoxiang Zhengqi Oral Liquid and Jinhao Jiere Granules].

Although all cancers are molecularly distinct, many share common driver mutations. Pan-cancer analysis, utilizes next-generation sequencing (NGS), pan-cancer model systems, and pan-cancer projects such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), to assess frequently mutated genes and other genomic abnormalities that are common among many cancer types, regardless of the tumor origin, providing new directions for tumor biology research. However, there is currently no study that has objectively analyzed the results of pan-cancer studies on cancer biology. For this study, 999 articles on pan-cancer published from 2006 to 2020 were obtained from the Scopus database, and bibliometric methods were used to analyze citations, international cooperation, co-authorship and keyword co-occurrence clusters. Furthermore, we also focused on and summarized the application of pan-cancer in breast cancer. Our result shows that the pan-cancer studies were first published in 2006 and entered a period of rapid development after 2013. So far, 86 countries have carried out international cooperation in sharing research. Researchers form the United States and Canada have published the most articles and have made the most extensive contribution to this field, respectively. Through author keyword analysis of the 999 articles, TCGA, biomarkers, NGS, immunotherapy, DNA methylation, prognosis, and several other keywords appear frequently, and these terms are hot spots in pan-cancer studies. There are four subtypes of breast cancer (luminalA, luminalB, HER2, and basal-like) according to pan-cancer analysis of breast cancer. Meanwhile, it was found that breast cancer has genetic similarity to pan-gynecological cancers, such as ovarian cancer, which indicates related etiology and possibly similar treatments. Collectively, with the emergence of new detection methods, new cancer databases, and the involvement of more researchers, pan-cancer analyses will play a greater role in cancer biology research.

Visualization and Analysis in the Field of Pan-Cancer Studies and Its Application in Breast Cancer Treatment.

Aging is a process of structural and functional decline that occurs in the body with increasing age. As aging progresses, it weakens the cellular system, leading to dysfunction and metabolic imbalance (mitochondrial metabolism, glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism, and blood and fluid flow changes), which can result in disease. Due to its unique immune and barrier systems, extensive cellular senescence can lead to various eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), presbyopia, dry eye disease (DED), corneal disease, vitreous opacity, and diabetic retinopathy (DR). This review discusses the relationship between ocular diseases and aging by analyzing the biological mechanisms of aging and anatomical changes in eye structure and function. Furthermore, we highlight therapeutic advancements for age-related eye diseases, emphasizing pharmacological interventions and innovative delivery systems. Oral antioxidants and anti-VEGF therapies combat oxidative damage and abnormal blood vessel growth, respectively. Lutein provides retinal protection, while lifestyle modifications, including smoking cessation and balanced nutrition, are crucial for mitigating aging effects. Nanoparticle-based therapies offer targeted drug delivery and controlled release, showing promise in treating conditions like AMD. Gene therapy advancements focus on improving mitochondrial function and addressing lipid metabolism disorders. Early screening and timely intervention are essential for effective management. Future research should optimize these therapies for long-term efficacy and safety.
