Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-associated mortality throughout the world. The prognosis of the disease depends on many factors including the stage and type of cancer. Many studies have identified various microRNAs (miRNAs) that affect the prognosis of lung cancer. In order to systemically analyze the available clinical data, the present study performed a meta-analysis to examine all evidence on the potential role of miRNAs as novel predictors of survival in lung cancer. Literature published in English prior to February 1st, 2018 was searched through PubMed to review all of the associations between individual miRNAs and groups of miRNAs with the prognosis of lung cancer. Data was extracted using standard forms and pooled odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. A total of 15 eligible studies were included in the meta-analysis. These represented 1,753 lung cancer patients and 20 miRNAs. A total of 8 downregulated miRNAs were associated with poorer overall survival (OS) [hazard ratio (HR)=0.59, 95% CI: 0.47-0.75, P<1×10], while 10 upregulated miRNAs were associated with poorer OS (HR=1.76, 95% CI: 1.31-2.35, P<1×10). Additionally, low miRNA expression was associated with lymph node metastasis [LNM; relative risk (RR)=0.53, 95% CI: 0.46-0.61, P<1×10]. The expression of miRNAs was not associated with lung cancer stage (RR=1.07, 95% CI: 0.94-1.22, P=0.23). Expression levels of different miRNAs were associated with the OS and LNM of patients with lung cancer. These miRNAs may be applied as potential prognostic markers in lung cancer.

Prognostic value of microRNAs in lung cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an inflammatory factor that increases rapidly in response to infectious diseases including sepsis. The aim of this study is to develop a quantum dot (QD)-based fluorescence lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) strip that can rapidly and accurately detect IL-6 levels.

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common male reproductive tract malignant tumor, accurate evaluation of PCa characterization and prognostic prediction at diagnosis are vital for the effective administration of the disease, especially at the molecular level. In this study, 48 CpG sites with differential methylation associated with overall survival (OS) were screened out between PCa and normal adjacent tissues. 16 CpG sites were selected by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and the risk score formula for methylated-based classifier was established. For 16-lncRNAs-CpG-classifier, the area under the curve (AUC) were 0.890, 0.917, and 0.932 at 3 years, 5 years and 7 years, respectively. Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that patients with high-risk scores had worse OS than those with low-risk scores. Prognostic methylation model of lncRNAs was identified from the whole genome in patients with PCa. This novel finding provides a novel insight for screening biomarkers of a prognosis for PCa.

To investigate the effect of case management (CM) based on the Omaha system on clinical symptoms and quality of life (QOL) of coronary heart disease patients after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Patients with coronary heart disease after their first PCI in the People's Hospital of Longhua in Shenzhen were randomly divided into a control group (received CM based on the Omaha system) and an observation group (received routine nursing) using a random number table. Nursing problems and the knowledge-behavior-status (KBS) score of patients were evaluated on the day after surgery, on the day before discharge, at 5 weeks after discharge, and at 12 weeks after discharge. The QOL of patients was evaluated using the coronary intervention coronary revascularization outcome questionnaire (CROQ-PTCA-Post, Chinese version) score on the day after surgery and at 12 weeks after discharge. A total of 104 patients completed the study (51 in the control group, 53 in the observation group). There were no significant differences in baseline data between the 2 groups (P gr.05). The main nursing problems were circulation, mental health, and pain in both groups on the day after surgery, whereas they were circulation, sleep and rest, and mental health after nursing. There were no significant differences in the KBS scores of the co-existing nursing problems on the day after surgery (P Th.05). The KBS scores of the co-existing nursing problems were significantly increased between the 2 groups (P < .01) on the day before discharge and at 5 weeks and 12 weeks after discharge. The KBS scores of the most co-existing nursing problems in the observation group were significantly higher at 12 weeks after discharge than at the day before discharge and at 5 weeks after discharge. Moreover, there were no significant differences in the CROQ-PTCA-Post scores on the first day after surgery between the 2 groups (P gr.05). These scores were significantly increased between the 2 groups at 12 weeks after discharge (P < .01). CM based on the Omaha system for patients after PCI can effectively improve the KBS scores and QOL of PCI patients with postoperative nursing problems, making this approach worthy of clinical promotion.

This study examined YTHDF2's role in modulating IL-6R signaling to regulate synovial fibroblast inflammation and bone damage in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Synovial tissues of RA patients were collected. Human fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS), MH7A cell line, was induced with TNF-α and transfected. Cell proliferation was assessed using MTT and EdU assays; apoptosis was measured with flow cytometry, and migration and invasion were evaluated through scratch and Transwell assays. Lentiviral vectors designed to overexpress YTHDF2 or IL-6R were created to study their effects in mice with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA). Pathological changes of ankle joints in mice were observed, and TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 contents were determined. MMP3 and MMP9 levels were detected by Western blot, while YTHDF2 and IL-6R were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blot. The binding relationship between YTHDF2 and IL-6R was studied. YTHDF2 in synovial tissues of RA patients was down-regulated. Elevating YTHDF2 inhibited TNF-α-induced MH7A cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and pro-inflammatory factors; Knocking down YTHDF2 showed the opposite effect. Upregulating YTHDF2 improved synovial inflammation and bone damage in CIA mice. IL-6R in synovial tissues of patients was significantly up-regulated and negatively correlated with YTHDF2 expression. YTHDF2 reduced IL-6R mRNA stability in a m6A-dependent manner. Overexpressing IL-6R impaired the anti-proliferating and anti-inflammatory effect of YTHDF2 on TNF-α-induced MH7A cells. In CIA mice, overexpression of IL-6R reversed the benefits on synovial inflammation and bone injury mediated by up-regulating YTHDF2. YTHDF2 inhibits inflammation and bone damage in RA synovial fibroblasts by reducing the mRNA stability of IL-6R.
