The geometrical structures, relative stabilities, electronic, and magnetic properties of zinc-doped gold cluster anions Au(n)Zn(-) (2 < or = n < or = 10) have been systematically investigated by means of first-principles density functional calculations at the B3LYP level. The results show that the most stable isomers have a planar structure and resemble pure gold cluster anions in shape, and no 3D isomers were obtained. Calculated dissociation energy, the second difference energy, and the highest occupied-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital gaps as a function of the cluster size exhibit a pronounced even-odd alternation phenomenon. The first vertical detachment energy of the anion clusters were calculated and compared with available experimental results. A good agreement between experimental and theoretical results suggests good prediction of the lowest-energy structures for all clusters calculated in the present study. Furthermore, both the local and total magnetic moments display a pronounced odd-even oscillation with the number of gold atoms.

The geometrical structures, relative stabilities, and electronic properties of small bare gold clusters Au(n)(lambda) and bimetallic complexes of bare metal clusters with one copper atom Au(n-1)Cu(lambda) (charge lambda = 0, +1, -1; 2 < or = n < or = 9) have been systematically investigated by means of first-principles density functional calculations at the B3LYP level. The results show that the most stable isomers have a planar structure and resemble pure gold clusters in shape, and no three-dimensional isomers were obtained for neutral and anionic doped gold clusters. However, the geometries of Au(n-1)Cu(+) are found to undergo a structural change from two dimensional to three dimensional when the cluster contains 7 atoms. The calculated dissociation energy and second difference energy as a function of the cluster size exhibit a pronounced even-odd alternation phenomenon. Ionization potentials and electron detachment energies (both vertical and adiabatic) of Au(n)(lambda) and Au(n-1)Cu(lambda) clusters are discussed and compared with available experimental results. A good agreement between experimental and theoretical results suggests good prediction of the lowest energy structures for all clusters calculated in the present study.

Density functional study of structural and electronic properties of bimetallic copper-gold clusters: comparison with pure and doped gold clusters.

Two types of transition metal-benzene anion complexes, (titanium)(n)(benzene)(m)⁻ and (cobalt)(n)(benzene)(m)⁻ (n ≤ 2, m ≤ 3) have been determined using density functional theory. The photoelectron spectra of Ti(n)Bz(m)⁻ and Co(n)Bz(m)⁻ (n ≤ 2, m ≤ 3) were discussed from the perspective of quantum chemical calculations of the vertical detachment energies (VDEs) of several low-energy isomers obtained by the structural optimization procedure. The binding of Ti and Co atoms to benzene molecules is accounted by 3d-π bonds, as revealed by the molecular orbitals. The topology of the electronic density has been analyzed, suggesting that the C-C bonds were weakened in the transition metal-benzene complexes in comparison to those in free benzene. Spin density distribution results show the spin densities for Ti(n)Bz(m)⁻ and Co(n)Bz(m)⁻ (n ≤ 2, m ≤ 3) reside mainly on the metal Ti and Co centers (70%-90%). A shift to lower magnetic moment with respect to the pure titanium/cobalt cluster anions indicates the solvent benzene molecule acts to demagnetize the bare titanium/cobalt cluster anions.

Probing the structural and magnetic properties of transition metal-benzene anion complexes.

Aggressive natural killer cell leukemia/lymphoma (ANKL) is a rare aggressive form of NK-cell neoplasm. We report an uncommon case of 36-year-old male who showed jaundice and spontaneous splenic rupture. The diagnosis was established by the biopsy of liver and spleen. The monomorphous medium-size neoplastic cells infiltrated into portal areas and sinus of liver as well as the cords and sinus of the spleen. Necrosis, mitotic figures and significant apoptosis could be seen easily. These neoplastic cells demonstrated a typical immunophenotype of CD3ε+, CD56+, CD16+, Granzyme B+, TIA-1+. T-cell receptor γ (TCR-γ) gene rearrangement analysis showed germline configuration and the result of in situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus-encoded RNA (EBER-ISH) was positive. The patient has undergone an aggressive clinical course and died of multi-organ function failure 14 days later after admission. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of ANKL with spontaneous splenic rupture, and we should pay more attention to recognize it.

Aggressive natural killer-cell leukemia with jaundice and spontaneous splenic rupture: a case report and review of the literature.

B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) exhibits phenotypes reminiscent of normal stages of B-cell development. As demonstrated by flow cytometry, the immunophenotypes are able to determine the stages of B cell development. Multicolor flow cytometry (MFC) is more accurate at identifying cell populations. In this study, 9-color panels, including CD10, CD19, CD20, CD22, CD34, CD79a, CD179a, and IgM, which are sequentially expressed during B cell development, were designed to detect the leukemia cell subpopulations in adult B-ALL patients. In 23 patients at diagnosis, 192 heterogeneous subpopulations of leukemia cells were detected. Compared with their counterparts at diagnosis and after the 1st course of induction therapy, the responses of the subpopulations were also heterogeneous. In the CD10 population, the residual B cell subpopulations in the BCR/ABL patients were obviously reduced compared to those in the BCR/ABL patients. New subpopulations were detected in 22 of 23 patients and were primarily located in the CD34CD10 populations. Subpopulations of clonal evolution were heterogeneous after induction therapy. Our results suggest that the subpopulations in B-ALL patients should be dynamically monitored by development-associated immunophenotyping before, during, and after induction therapy and to predict the prognosis of the disease. 

Development-associated immunophenotypes reveal the heterogeneous and individualized early responses of adult B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Limited studies are available on the molecular pathogenesis of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated T or natural killer (NK) cell lymphoproliferative disorders (EBV+T/NK-LPD). In this retrospective study, we aim to elucidate the mutation profile of EBV+T/NK-LPD using capture-based targeted sequencing with a panel consisting of 64 lymphoma-related genes to identify driver genes associated with the development of EBV+T/NK-LPD. Targeted sequencing of 169 EBV+T/NK-LPD cases was performed using a panel of 64 lymphoma-related genes. Of the 169 EBV+T/NK-LPD cases, 123 had extra-nodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL), 12 had aggressive NK-cell leukemia (ANKL) and 34 had EBV+ T-cell lymphoma of childhood (EBV+TL). The mutation profile revealed that all three subtypes of EBV+T/NK-LPDs had high mutation rates in  and . Target sequencing revealed that ENKTL, ANKL and EBV+TL were molecularly distinct, the mutation in nasal-ENKTL and extra-nasal-ENKTL are also different. Survival analysis revealed that ENKTL patients with gene mutations or loss of protein expression in either KMT2D or TET2 were significantly correlated with shorter overall survival. And although the EBV+TL and ANKL groups were too small to confirm survival disadvantage, the adverse prognosis trends of KMT2D or TET2 were showed in these two groups. We conclude that EBV+T/NK lymphoproliferative disorders have very distinct molecular profiles. Our findings also suggest the likely involvement of KMT2D and TET2 in the development of ENKTL, and possibly EBV+T/NK-LPDs in general.
