Economic activity revolves around three main markets: goods and services, labor, and financial. Each market serves as a platform for buyers and sellers to interact and determine prices and quantities. Participants in these exchanges include households, businesses, governments, and global entities.
In the goods and services market, businesses sell products while individuals, companies, and governments purchase them. For example, Apple manufactures iPhones using parts from multiple countries and sells them to consumers worldwide.
The labor market is where people offer their work, and businesses and governments hire them. Apple needs engineers and factory staff to make an iPhone, some based in the U.S. and others in different countries.
In the financial market, people save and invest, while businesses and governments borrow to fund activities. Individuals might invest in stocks or bonds, while companies like Apple raise money by selling shares or taking loans to expand operations.
These three markets work together—production, employment, and investment all move in sync whenever economic activity occurs.
