How Waves Transfer Energy

Waves transfer energy through motion in the air, water, and ground. That energy can have real effects. Earthquake waves can shake large concrete buildings until they fall. Loud sound waves can damage nerve cells in the inner ear and lead to permanent hearing loss. Ocean waves can also wear away beaches.
