Standing Wave Harmonics in Strings and Buildings

Description

Standing waves and resonance can be seen in both earthquakes and strings. Earthquake waves can make a building vibrate for several seconds when the driving frequency matches the building’s natural frequency of vibration. That resonance can cause one building to collapse while nearby buildings stay standing.

当拨动一根绷紧的弦时,产生的波是非线性的。这种非线性波是由两列频率相同、振幅相同但传播方向相反的波相互干涉而形成的。

由波节和波腹组成的这种波形模式被称为简正模式或谐波。

当波长为弦长的两倍时,出现第一谐波,这也称为基模。

边界条件是弦的两端为波节。不满足此条件的波是不可能存在的。对于满足此条件的波,弦长的两倍等于波长的整数倍。

根据这一点,可以确定每个正则模式的波长。回顾可知,波长与频率成反比关系。因此,每个谐波的频率是基波频率的第 n倍。
