Reading Relationships in a Scatter Plot

A scatter plot shows the relationship between two variables, x and y. It is one of the easiest ways to display how the variables are connected. The graph can show the direction of the relationship. It can also show whether the points suggest a clear pattern or little pattern at all.

考虑房屋价格及其相应占地面积的定量数据。这种包含两个变量的定量数据称为双变量数据。

作为原因的变量称为自变量，而显示响应结果的变量称为因变量。 

一个变量对另一个变量的依赖关系可以通过散点图进行可视化。在此图中，自变量——地面面积——沿 X 轴表示，  因变量——房屋价格——沿Y轴表示。 

标记出与地面面积对应的价格。然后绘制一条最佳拟合直线，使该直线上方和下方的点数量大致相等。这些点共同形成的模式可用于识别两个变量之间的相关性。

请注意，占地面积的增加会导致房价上涨。这种上升趋势表明存在正相关关系。 

相反，如果观察到呈下降趋势，则表明存在负相关。没有趋势意味着不存在相关性。
