Selectins in Immune Cell Capture

Selectins help cells make short, temporary contacts during immune responses. They are cell adhesion molecules that bind carbohydrate ligands on other cells. These rod-like proteins have a long outside region and end in a lectin domain, which binds carbohydrates only when calcium ions are present.

所有选择素均包含一个N端凝集素结构域和一个表皮生长因子（EGF）结构域，这些结构域调控结合的特异性和强度。

淋巴细胞等免疫细胞表面表达的短L-选择素可通过与内皮细胞上的配体结合，帮助这些免疫细胞迁移进入淋巴结。

较大的P选择素主要在血小板上表达，有助于在损伤部位聚集血小板和免疫细胞。

第三种类型称为E-选择素，在免疫反应期间与P-选择素一起在内皮细胞上短暂表达。

这些选择素与自由流动的白细胞形成微弱且短暂的相互作用，从而使其减速。
