Numerical calculations in engineering depend on clear values, correct units, and careful rounding. Presenting the answer is an important part of engineering practice, so numerically accurate results are preferred. Handheld calculators and computers are often used because they help produce accurate answers.

根据该规则，当一个数的末位数字大于5时，需进位；当末位数字小于5时，该数在有效数字范围内保持不变。

当数字以5结尾时，仅当其前一位数字为奇数时才进位；若前一位数字为偶数，则保留至有效数字位数不变。
