大脑是神经系统不可或缺的组成部分，是处理感官输入、做出决定和指导身体动作的中心。这个复杂的器官分为三个主要部分:后脑、中脑和前脑，每个部分负责一系列重要功能。

后脑

后脑位于大脑底部，在调节维持生命的自动过程中起着至关重要的作用。它包括延髓，这对于控制心跳、呼吸和血压等非自主功能至关重要。脑桥与延髓相邻，充当大脑各个部分之间的桥梁，促进运动信息的传递和协调运动。它在调节睡眠周期方面也起着至关重要的作用。小脑是后脑的另一个重要组成部分，主要负责保持姿势和平衡以及协调复杂的自主运动。

中脑

中脑位于后脑上方，是一个很小但至关重要的区域，充当前脑和后脑之间的通道。中脑对于听觉和视觉处理至关重要，在自主运动功能中发挥着重要作用。它包含网状结构等结构，有助于调节睡眠-觉醒周期并保持警觉。中脑内的关键区域包括黑质和腹侧被盖区，这两个区域都参与多巴胺的产生。多巴胺是一种调节运动和情绪反应所必需的神经递质。

前脑

前脑是最先进和最大的区域，包括边缘系统等结构，其中包括杏仁核和海马体。这些区域对于管理情绪和形成记忆至关重要。下丘脑是边缘系统的另一个重要部分，通过垂体监督稳态功能，例如温度调节、口渴、饥饿和激素相互作用。丘脑充当传入感官信息的中继站，对信息进行分类并引导至大脑的适当区域进行进一步处理。此外，基底神经节在自主运动的顺利执行中起着至关重要的作用。

大脑皮层

大脑皮层占据前脑的主导地位，参与高级认知功能。大脑的最外层对于思维、推理、意识和记忆等过程至关重要。它错综复杂地折叠以增加其表面积，从而使其更加复杂，并实现更高级的功能，这也是人类与其他物种的区别所在。通过这些多样化且相互关联的区域，大脑确保感官信息、运动技能、认知功能和情绪反应的无缝整合，从而促进构成人类生活的复杂活动。

此外，大脑皮层负责意识、推理和记忆等高级认知功能。

中脑连接前脑和后脑，在处理感觉信息和传递神经信号方面起着至关重要的作用。以中脑为中心的网状结构会影响警觉性和睡眠-觉醒周期。

值得注意的是，黑质和腹侧被盖区包含产生神经递质多巴胺的细胞体。

后脑位于后脑，主要包括髓质，髓质调节心跳和呼吸等基本功能。此外，脑桥有助于大脑交流和睡眠调节，而小脑负责协调运动和平衡。
