Staking out curves ensures accurate alignment in construction. The process involves setting stakes at calculated positions along the curve's path.
First, determine the curve's geometric parameters: radius, central angle, and tangent distances. These values are essential for locating key points such as the Point of Curvature (P.C.), Point of Tangency (P.T.), and the midpoint.
Using a total station or theodolite, align the instrument at the P.C. and sight along the tangent. From P.C., calculate and measure the deflection angles and chord lengths to set out the curve.
Deflection angles are measured incrementally, starting at the tangent line and progressing through the curve. For each deflection, place a stake at the corresponding chord length.
Ensure consistent tension and alignment of measurement tools, particularly when using tapes.
Validate measurements periodically to avoid cumulative errors. Continue this process until the curve is fully staked and the P.T. is reached.
Finally, the stakes should be reviewed, and their positions should be confirmed to align with the design plan before proceeding with construction.
