Qualitative Assessment

Qualitative assessment is a systematic approach to evaluating characteristics, conditions, or evidence that cannot be fully represented by numerical measures. In accounting, it involves reviewing financial information, business circumstances, and supporting documentation, then applying professional judgment to interpret relevance, reliability, materiality, and the likely impact on users’ decisions. This assessment complements quantitative analysis by providing context for unusual transactions, estimates, risks, internal controls, and disclosures. It helps accountants and auditors determine whether reported information faithfully represents economic events and supports transparent, well-informed financial decision-making.
