Upper Extremity Rehabilitation

Upper extremity rehabilitation is the structured process of restoring movement, strength, coordination, and functional use of the shoulder, arm, wrist, and hand after injury, illness, or neurological impairment. It works by combining assessment with graded task practice, repetition, feedback, and adaptive strategies that help shape motor behavior and improve performance. Therapists use these principles to address reaching, grasping, manipulation, and other activities required for daily living, education, and work. By linking physical recovery with motivation, attention, and consistent practice, upper extremity rehabilitation can improve independence, participation, and long-term functional outcomes.

An upper-extremity approach for secondary access during transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve implantation is associated with fewer secondary access site-related bleeding complications and reduces time to mobilization in patients requiring extended pacing. This protocol aims to provide an extensive overview of the upper-extremity approach and guide operators in adopting this methodology.
