Cloud Compare

CloudCompare is a software platform for visualizing, processing, and comparing three-dimensional point clouds, which are collections of spatial measurements used to represent physical objects and surfaces. It works by importing point-cloud data, applying operations such as filtering, segmentation, registration, and distance calculation, and displaying geometric differences between datasets. In bioengineering, these capabilities support analysis of anatomical scans, tissue-engineered structures, medical devices, and other complex three-dimensional models. Comparing point clouds can reveal shape changes, surface irregularities, and alignment errors, helping researchers quantify morphology, evaluate fabrication accuracy, and interpret imaging or scanning results.

Comparing Intermolecular Forces: Melting Point, Boiling Point, and Miscibility

2020

Intermolecular forces are attractive forces that exist between molecules. They dictate several bulk properties, such as melting points, boiling points, and solubilities (miscibilities) of substances. Molar mass, molecular shape, and polarity affect the strength of different intermolecular forces, which influence the magnitude of physical properties across a family of molecules. Temporary attractive forces like dispersion are present in all molecules, whether they are polar or nonpolar. They...

2024

This protocol describes the procedure for performing in vivo PET imaging on mice using Body Conforming Animal Molds (BCAMs) in the G8 PET/CT scanner. Technical details on mouse preparation, including proper tumor implantation, optimal positioning, BCAM-assisted PET/CT image acquisition, and data analysis, are provided.

Comparing Copy Number Variations and SNPs

2021

Sequencing of the human genome has opened up several best-kept secrets of the genome. Scientists have identified thousands of genome variations that exist within a population. These variations can be a single nucleotide or a larger chromosomal variation. Copy number variations or CNVs are the structural variations that cover more than 1kb of DNA sequence. The single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), on the other hand, is a single nucleotide change or a point mutation that is found in more than 1%...
