Multiplex Visual Detection

Multiplex visual detection is a bioengineering approach that identifies several biological targets in a single sample by assigning each target a distinguishable visual signal. It works by combining selective recognition elements, such as probes or binding reagents, with labels that differ in color, emission spectrum, location, or pattern, allowing imaging systems to separate and measure signals simultaneously. This strategy increases information yield while conserving sample volume and reducing analysis time. Applications include monitoring multiple biomarkers, characterizing cells and tissues, studying molecular interactions, and developing diagnostic or screening platforms with greater analytical breadth.

Multiplex fluorescence immunoassays are becoming a reference for serology testing. Their application, however, is limited by the complexity and time-consuming bead-analyte coupling processes. This report presents a semi-automated, reproducible multiplex microsphere bead coupling protocol that is comparable to the standard method while considerably reducing time to results.
